The point is not to get the commitment, it's to get him to sign. To your point honesty is truly the best play here and Butch was honest to both that they wanted to take 2 qbs in this cycle. It's the better way to accomplish the the goal of getting him on signing day.

every situation is different. they handled this one the right way. just about every major program has a qb committed by now. best to get one in and let them both know the siutation.

I think it is equally amazing how many jackasses attempt to ruin threads based on the same vague information that causes people to act as if a recruit is in the bag. Truth is the 'keeping it real' crowd is just as clueless as the homer crowd.

Then what the hell we are given that they've beaten us the last two times we played, have a legit Heisman trophy contender, a future HOF head coach, finished 11-2/in the top 5 last year and that they were in the playoffs 2 years ago? If that's being "nobody", give me some "nobody" in Knoxville.

I love my Vols ..... while recognizing that there are other programs out there that have earned my respect with their performance/traditions/greatness over time. It's just dumb to say programs like OU are "nobody"...it's just not true.

What kind of stupid question is this? I can't give a legit answer to why the guy might have interest in another program?

Watch OU fling it around, watch their offense. Mayfield's thrown for nearly 8000 yards and 80 tds the last two seasons....he was invited to the Heisman ceremony last year and OU was in the final 4 playoffs in 2015. Those are legit reasons for a qb to be interested in their program, and pointing that out shouldn't subject a lifelong Vol fan and alumnus to have his fandom questioned. Come on man, be better than that.
