Pretty much nothing went JG's way last season in any game, yet the only game he supposedly acted with any immaturity was the opener against GT, and I suspect that if Butch had allowed his back up QBs to be more involved in the game, sending signals, holding clipboards, etc., rather than just sitting in the bench, he would have not have been left alone with his thoughts.

You may be right, but I didn't see any real evidence of it last season when there were plenty of opportunities in literally every single game for him to lose his shat. He actually seemed to do a good job of maintaining his composure in some very difficult situations. I don't question his mental toughness, just his ability to quickly process what he sees from the defense, which I am hoping Helton can correct.

I mean I wasnt happy about his laying down on the field after the South Carolina game.... But whatever, at least the kid had some passion compared to some of our players last year.

Any early voters out there? I’m running for county commission in Anderson County’s 1st District. Keep me in mind, y’all.

Meh. That didn't bother me at all. I used to act much, much worse than that after a UT loss. Literally nothing was safe from destruction in my house; things, pets, or people.

Could be coach prejudice making that call though instead of KC just being much better, I'm sorry but I don't trust these guys THAT much yet.

“ these guys “ have their whole future, their family’s futures at state here at Tennessee and they will put the best players at every position that gives us a chance to win the most games . If you want to “ Be The Man” then they need to step up and beat the man . I don’t think it has anything to do with any prejudice , just be the best one at your position and you’ll start .

He had just played his heart out and saw victory be snatched away. That's not the reaction of someone spoiled, that is the reaction of someone who plays their heart out and left all he had on the field. There's disappointment in losing. No one likes to lose. How do you feel or react when something you've worked so hard for falls through? At the moment that you failed, it's devastating. It's not like he laid on the field kicking and screaming in a tantrum like he was two.

Hence why I said atleast he showed passion?

If it’s KC, does JG act like a baby again in Charlotte?

Not sure but I don't think so. Easier to deal with it when being told the truth. Not easy but easier.

We really don't know what we are getting with either guy right now. JG played under a terrible OC and terrible OL. He still could have showed better in situations. He was slow getting ball out and making decisions. Hesitated. Coaching can help this as he looked better in spring but still work to be done.

Chryst was better in 2016 than 2017 as he was only half a year removed from ACL tear. Watch the highlights it's pretty clear his legs/mobility are better as a soph than a Jr. Shaw handcuffs QBs as well. Doesn't let them rip it. Helton will be asking much different if his QBs.

Going to be a great battle and I don't care who wins. JG winning would help the future more though so if he doesn't win the job then it's in him. He has a spring and future on his side

i think a lot depends on the OL play. If the OL is breaking down you are gonna need the big body that is Chryst.

I’m interested to see this. There have been rumors that he was promised PT against GT and that’s why he was so upset.

Hopefully a new coaching situation helps him stay focused even if he’s on the sideline this year.

i think the change in coaching probably addresses this.

yep. but i think really, and some of this depends on the availability of, and level of play Chance Hall might be able to provide.

but i'm cautiously optimistic, a lot more so than a few months ago, about the prospects of the O line this year.

Helton is a PAC 10 guy who has watched Chryst. Could be dead even and he picks KC just because he is more familiar/comfortable with him.

if he was that fragile emotionally, mentally...that afraid of competition, he would have left when they signed Chryst.

i think this coaching change has been a very good thing for JG.

I mean that the guys eligibility clock is running, he ain't gonna stick around for a staff that proves they don't believe in him by picking the mediocre guy from Cali.

This is all hypothetical anyway, so it doesn't matter yet. I hope the best, and I mean really the best QB plays, but I hope that QB is JG because we need to get more than one year out of our starter this season.
