I agree with HoleInTheRoof about his film. he RAC was impressive and the punt return was droolworthy. The rest of his plays he was pretty much wide open on them all. Now whether he was that open because defense was focused on others is not apparent in all of them. There is evidence, in his route running, that he was at least partially responsible for being open most of the time. But in a lot of the cases he was just flat wide open no one covered him.

That being said the film makes me excited the kid has potential.. His body and movements remind me more of a famous UTC graduate that blew up in the NFL more than Marshall, but that's just me. He flew under the radar too.

I’m not gonna argue about it. All I’m saying is it’s one thing if a kid comes from a podunk bad football program that gets little exposure and we find someone that stands out.

It’s another thing altogether when a kid plays at a highly visible school and it’s 2 days from signing day and his offer list and ranking is suspect.

I’m not being overly negative. I trust this staff. But I’m being realistic. If this kid, or the safety we offered the other day are takes, then it’s because we whiffed on a lot of people and we still have to fill out a class.

Go Vols.

I don't disagree with you but I think there is very little risk here since he is probably signing after nsd. He's not gonna take away someone's spot. If we don't sign every body on nsd he is maybe a high upside back up plan.

The Las Vegas Bishop Gorman WR landed an offer from Tennessee on Sunday night. I was always surprised Pac-12 schools weren't seriously involved with him because he has great size and is really talented.

Tillman said he's planning to visit Knoxville ASAP, not sure if he's planning to do anything on signing day until he gets to Tennessee.

TO ran a 4.7 at the Combine. Obviously faster than that. Some learn how to run the damn things to make themselves better prospects. Ultimately it’s how fast they are on the field.

at Mater Dei this year Tillman had 7 catches for 182 yds and a td. On the season he had 37 catches for 7tds. The offense consisted of a short passing game to slots and rbs out of the backfield. Most of the throws downfield were on broken plays.

MAJOR props to this coaching staff. They somehow managed to find a WR better than Jordan Young. This guy is already a really good route runner and has some speed. He has elite upside. Can’t wait to see coach Johnson work his magic 🔥👀🔥

I am guessing one of the reasons he was not recruited heavily was this info Ron shared from VQ on Sunday:

“i'm just a late bloomer,” tillman offered. “my sophomore year i got hurt. I shattered my forearm and needed two surgeries. So i miseed that year. My junior year, i didn't play a lot. We had a really good team and i was 6-foot, and 170-175 pounds. This year, i played at almost 6-4 and 205-pounds. I grew a lot between my junior and senior year. I also got faster.”

That injury sounds super bad and probably scared some people off. Just figured some people may have missed th at info.

He goes to Bishop Gorman. D1 Coaches have definitely seen him plenty lol
I’m saying most haven’t sat down and focused on him though. You do realize that coaches miss a lot right? AB walked on at CMU, TO played for UTC, David Johnson played for UNI, and the list goes on and on. It’s just hudl but this kid flashes elite route running capabilities and has good enough speed to be a productive receiver.

Yeah, you’re right. Dumb of anyone to question a low ranked kid who plays at a well known school visited by tons of scouts. There’s no chance his rating/lack of offers is because of the 90% of plays not included in a HUDL highlight reel. Every kid is an undiscovered gem.

Amirite?

The fact that you think Rivals is better at assessing talent of a kid they have never seen than our coaching staff doesn't speak well for your judgment. Do you really think every recruiting site in the country evaluates every player?

I'll say one thing; after watching his Hudl video, I see it's not a good idea for little DBs to try and tackle him high.

Nice late find, but no. Young Is a game changer

What I learned in this thread:

Tillman is Brandon Marshall.
He’s a better prospect than Jordan Young.
Doesn’t matter that he went to a highly visible school - he slipped through the cracks because scouts didn’t look at him.

I can appreciate optimism and all, but some people are delusional.

I didn't say any of that stupid comparison crap, but I did say it is understandable how he slipped through the cracks in the context of his particular story.

“If we aren’t recruiting the same kids as Alabama, we’re doing something wrong”

Heck anyone in the SEC....nope.....Big Ten.....PAC 12...... Bueller....Bueller

^This is makes no sense. I thought Pruitt offered Peterson, Walker, Griffin, ITS, Campbell, Smith, Miller, Langham and others that Bama, and other big boys are recruiting.

The coaching change and ESD changed the dynamics of this recruiting cycle, as did 4-8 (0-8), which made it difficult to develop relationships in a short term, or convince elite kids to be part of a rebuild rather than play for an NC contender immediately.

Credit to the staff for taking swings at so many elite players right out of the gate, and it looks like that will pay off with 2-3 of those guys.

But I am sure the staff had much more realistic expectations for this class than some of our fanbase did, which is why they had some Plan B players they were interested in when/if some of the Plan A kids said no.

Look at Jimbo. Has a recent NC on his resume, takes the HC job at a school with alone of the largest recruiting budgets in the heart of talent-rich Texas, and the day before NSD has a class ranked in the 40s right now.

Transition recruiting classes are usually very difficult, plain and simple. And remember UT's class was ranked in the 60s the day before NSD. IMO, this staff has done a very good job with this class. Have there been some glitches? Yes, but all in all this will be a solid class, which back in mid-December I would have never expected.

He was a benchwarmer that gained 3 inches, 30 pounds and got faster in one year.... he was noticed by USC the ho really liked him but doesn’t have room for him.... Clay told his brother at Tennessee about him which is why we looked at him and eventually offered.

At the risk of sounding like I’m pumping the ’shine, this kid did score 14 TDs for one of the best programs in the country. At 6-4, 205, how does that get overlooked by every college program in the country? Unlike Jordan Young, visibility isn’t the issue.
