'18 FL CB Tanner Ingle (UT commit 6/19/17)

I agree with u about Jumper. He made a huge jump(i know, bad pun) from 2015 to 2016. Played his a$$ off against Florida and might have laid the lick of the year in the aTm game. Imo, a very good back-up LB, don't want him starting, but 15 or so snaps a game, in the right situation is perfect

he is good for giving guys a breather. 15 he was a liability. 16 he was not.

Magitt was good...pre injury. IMO ONE OF the best we've had in years.

Unfortunately my list of good is pretty short in recent years...

Johnson, Magitt, JRM......Kirkland (still to be determined IMO)....and?

Have I missed someone?

I wrote out "obviously Jumper isn't Clay Matthews" but erased thinking nobody would be silly enough to think that was the point. Live and learn I guess.

You have to remember a lot of people think walk on = not good enough. Instead of they could have the talent but need coaching to get that talent out.

I don't think that at all. I think I actually watched him play and he wasn't a good LB. maybe he will get better in the next couple of years.

Yeah your point was that you think Jumper has been a good LB. I disagree. He may get better.

I know it's "silly" of me to have a different opinion from yours.

So you're telling me he couldn't learn how to line up a defense in 3 years? He shouldn't have been eligible to play then. Kid wasn't that dumb and didn't look out of place in games either.

I played with a guy like that once. Best player on the field. But he was dumb as rocks and could not play in the middle because he could not line up guys. It is ridiculous but they do exist in the real world of football. They can't play QB either.

Why cut him slack when we've had JRM and DKjr as the only good LBs under him. I can't give him a pass on that....

Breaker being around and seeing things up close and personal here's my take on this. The Lb coach has proven himself everywhere he's been. Thigh as been an elite recruiter and coach in the SEC prior to UT so why would he all of a sudden fall off now? The level of talent at Lb has been so so. Guys like Bryant were hard to get in the line up because of his lack of ability to mk the necessary reads and calls. Lb is not only about the ability to hit. Jumper as bad as he may have been was very cerebral and had the ability to mk sure guys lined up correctly. JRM and DKJr are cerebral guys and don't hv to over think to make a play or call out the alignment. Due in part to our lack of modern success it hasn't bn that easy to recruit elite Lb talent. Also to his disdain he missed on 2 elite instate talents at Lb who are slated to be starters on other top SEC schools defenses in Dodson at aTm and Phillips at LSU who is slated to start day 1.

Our LBs don't look physical enough stylistically to me. It doesn't take elite talent to be more physical st the point of attack.

Coaches fall off all the time too. Maybe I'm wrong but an elite recruiter should be able to bring in some decent talent and develop them since he can't get the elite guys. Especially 4-5 years into the job. This past year class should be okay buy we'll see what happens.

Breaker I respect your opinions on defensive backs but I'm beginning to think your knowledge of the LB position may not be as high. I am an ex linebacker and I feel that much of what you see as a lack of physicality is a function of guys not getting to the proper point of attack to make a physical play. I played at a sunbelt conference level and can tell you speed of play and/or any disruption in reaching the spot by a fraction of a second is the difference between a solid technique tackle and a whiff on the runner even at that level. I can't even imagine at SEC level. This is also the primary reason most Vol fans don't realize how pathetic the talent level was when Butch took over. We were ridiculously slow!! I will be interested to see what our LB play will be like this coming year. Our guys are likely physical enough but weren't able to play fast enough last year.

A whiff or getting ear holed. Lol. Our speed was terrible under Dools.

The point was that even on teams that are loaded with highly rated recruits walk ons can take their starting spot.

I can understand them not playing fast enough to an extent. But after 4 years of coaching a position at one school I expect much more out of that position as a whole. Just like the former secondary coach fell off with times(he wasn't always a bad coach) I can see some things I don't like at LB. DKjr for example looked no different just from a physicality standpoint from year 1 to year 2. He was seasoned and is a talented athlete. I expected a lot from him in year 2. He was hurt so I will give him a pass for lost of this past year.

We will see what the LB coach gets done this Fall. Hopefully his guys prove me wrong. If not go after the LB coach at Wisconsin right now. Lol

He was also playing on a bad wheel even when he came back. Last year was just much worse for our defensive interior than most want to recognize. I could be wrong and you may be right. Time will tell. I'm typically not going to start calling for a coach to be gone until it's clear he's the problem. There was certainly enough going on to take a wait and see approach. I think team 121 may really surprise some folks this year. Of course I may be a Homer too😁

Meanwhile, we are told that Warren is very happy with the current committed guys for his secondary. He loves Brandon Cross and Tanner Ingle. He had the chance to work both guys in a camp earlier this month and both clearly impressed Warren particularly show great speed. Cross continues to get more and more attention, and Ingle continues to draw more and more comparisons to the Honey Badger.

I don't know if Ingle will end up being the "Savage Badger" like Wells and/or Warren like to call him, but I love his highlight video. A heat seeking missle that returns kicks/punts and also, blocks them. Despite his size, from what I've seen, he is the definition of a football player

I 100% agree on this

Kid is a football player
