Nah, Hubbs is constantly hedging his bets. Never goes out on a limb. It's because he doesn't know anything. Being wrong all the time would be bad for business.
To say Hubbs "doesn't know anything" is wildly inaccurate. Does he know less than he has at some points and with some coaching staffs? Good chance of that. But Hubbs is in the know as much as anyone in the business.
You're correct that he's not going to go out on a limb, but he also has a high respect for these kids and lets them have their moment. If Hubbs says "We like where UT is positioned with ____" that's a very good sign. But he's not going to break the news to overshadow the kid's moment.
And Hubbs is also as conservative as they come. He knows how fans will take it if he hints at optimism with a prospect. We take nuggets and turn them into guarantees and Hubbs is smart enough not to get into that. It's why he's more respected and has a longer tenure than most guys in the business at other SEC schools who are homers and spew what the fans want to hear.
