You guys will find anything to worry about lol

I have a better idea. Forget about star ratings all together. They are for show and not a true representation of the future abilities of a football player.

Just put your trust in the coaches ability to identify football players that fit our system. So far, this staff has been pretty darn good at that.

I understand the point you are trying to make. There are many very talented players that fly under the radar, don't do camps etc. But that applies to the somewhat rare individual player that excels beyond their rating. Empirical evidence shows however that as a collection of data points, teams that have a high team ranking tend to perform higher than those that don't. That's simply the math and it's undeniable. That doesn't mean that we don't trust the coaches and their assessment either. I think our coaches are some of the best at finding talent.

It USED to be a dream.

Past tense.

Good for us, right?

Right?

I realize it's not scholarship papers for him to sign but it is an "Official" offer. I don't think you get those if you don't have a commitable offer.

Not sure how many of those they send out, but I'd imagine it's more than 25 each fall. And I'm not arguing that he does/does not have a committable offer, but I wouldn't be surprised if schools send out 50 or more of those letters. Not all of them can be committable offers. Some are accepted on a first come/first serve basis for one spot (perhaps like the Cam Jones vs. Matthew Flint scenario), and others may be for guys that teams would take if options A and B opt elsewhere.

I just don't think it's as easy as saying you got this letter, you have a spot. But I'm open to the idea that I may be wrong about that. I'm not a college coach.

Get real fellas.... he obviously meant he dreamt of getting a bama offer but then when he got that Tennessee offer he was like bama please.

Official Offers are committable. Any offers before the 1st of August are non-committable. Those receiving committable offers are those who have a slot in the class. The staff sends out hundreds of offers each year but only so many committable offers. The offers given out during the year even to JR's etc aren't binding i.e. a recruit decommits. If a commit faxes in their commitment on NSD it will be accepted, if they had received a committable offer previously.

I could be wrong too. Did you zoom in and read it? It sounds pretty much like an official offer of a scholarship. I don't know if it's binding.

I did read it. I think the only binding thing is a LOI or a Financial Aid Agreement. A written offer is not binding that I'm aware of, and like I said, I'm pretty certain they issue more of those than they have spots for. After all, even the early signing period is still 4+ months away. A lot can and will change.

Guys, if Bama wanted to keep their chances high at landing this kid either now or later on then they are gonna send him that letter.

If they want to pull the offer later on in the process they would not blink.

I'm not entirely sure I agree here. First off, a player is not sending in his commitment on NSD. He is sending in signed scholarship papers that were sent to him by the school just ahead of NSD. That is the binding document for both parties. Secondly, why can't a school send out dozens of "official" offers if they want? It only means that it is in writing as I understand it. There is nothing binding about it. If they plan on taking 4 offensive lineman, and a 5th guy wants on board, while he may have had an official written offer at one time, that offer is no longer valid because someone else took his place.

For example, Tennessee is only taking one LB this year. Wouldn't it be sensible to assume they sent out written offers to both Cam Jones and Matthew Flint today? Both of those offers can't be committable if the plan is to only take one. So someone is left out.

Am I missing something here? I'll be the first to admit I am not an authority on the issue, but this is just how I've always understood the process to work. I'd love to see or hear from someone who knows for sure because I'm wondering myself now.

Not saying I disagree but has anyone that we suspect that doesn't have a commiitable offer tweeted their official offer of scholarship sent out by Tennessee?
