'18 GA DE Jamarcus Chatman (Former UT commit 6/25/17)

More
Two sides parting ways. Anderson was always a real longshot. Chatman is a heckuva player for a team trying to win back-to-back state titles, but he's undersized. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

I am going to guess yes. Alabama was not interested, and neither was UGA. UF had offered, but Rumph is not coaching DL.

*I should add I am basing this off our current defensive coaches not offering at previous schools.

If we transition to a 34 and other high level SEC teams that run a 34 are not offering, he may be a good DL but doesn’t fit the prototype for that scheme.

More upset about what it means for our chances at Anderson then losing chatman in general.

Hope we have some new commits soon. 3 decommits in a row is looking kinda bad. Need a big commit to get things moving in the right direction again.

It's not bad if JP is cutting guys who don't fit into his plans. This is very common in coaching changes, especially when there are completely different offensive and defensive schemes.

I get that. I’m pretty sure all 3 were cut. I was talking more about the perception from other recruits. Right now the perception is we’ve had 3 straight decommit. We need a big time guy to commit to steer the ship back in the right direction and get that momentum going.

The only recruits that matter are the ones the staff is recruiting and they know what’s going on, they’re being told why commits are leaving. It’s no secret what’s going on and doesn’t hurt a recruits perception of a program. Especially if they have a new staff and are dropping offers to recruits in a completely different lake than the small lil pond the previous regime was recruiting from. It actually is a good thing, it tells recruits that this staff is serious and they’ve gotta a plan and they’re going in that direction no settling for nothing!!!!

I like it, I like it a lot.

I'm going to assume he, like Cross, was told to look elsewhere.

In Pruitt I trust.

He wasn’t recruiting Anderson with the intent of cutting his friend.
This one isn’t over either. From one of his coaches when asked if he was processed “not the case, more of the uncertainty of a new staff type deal”. DL is low on top guys this year, wouldn’t surprise me if coaches didn’t keep on Chatman to recommit.

Add 2” to the guy’s height and he’s a top 50 player.

I hope he recommits if not best of luck to him. He is talented and will do well.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Chattman isn't huge, but he's not small either. Dave Aranda thought he was plenty big at LSU.

Hopefully Chattman waits until NSD to commit that way the staff has a chance to get him back on board if they want him.

Not arguing/doubting you but Simonton a few posts above said it was a "mutual parting of ways." Sounds to me like they didn't think he fit.

As far as Anderson goes, they were recruiting him at UGA (and he commited) while not even offering Chatman. So it isn't as though one was required for the other.
