'18 GA QB Emory Jones (Ohio State commit)

Yeah but I'm not sure most top flight prospects look at it quite that way. Most don't see it as an either or type of situation. Most have the confidence to think that if they play at an elite program and compete for championships, then they'll get their shot in the NFL.
Like Torrance Gibson, i agree.

"I just didn't want Coach [Urban] Meyer and them to go crazy because I'm still committed to them," Jones said. "I'm going to take more visits to make sure I chose the right place. I just didn't want it to get out."

Florida, Florida State and Alabama will get their chance to host Jones as well, and he also mentioned that he'll likely be back at Georgia again in the summer.-Rivals

He just spent 3 "secret" days at UGA. Now, that it got out, he's saying he will take visits. I'd be surprised if Tn didn't get one.

That distance away from home is already starting to creep into his mind, IMO.

Why aren't we more involved in this when we were his top choice behind OSU originally? I would've thought that if he decommitted that we would've been the pick

Even Heismen winner Troy Smith didn't do squat in the NFL. I seriously don't get why QBs play for him.

I very much agree. His claim to fame for NFL QBs is Alex Smith, who has been serviceable and a starter, but that was at Utah. None of his QBs at UF or OSU have done much. I guess you could throw Tebow in, but he started one year and won one playoff game. I don't get it, either. The way that he develops QBs does not prepare them for a career in the NFL.

Just a question, since I am too lazy to do the research - how does Butch compare with his putting QBs successfully in the NFL since he has been a head coach?

We will have Dobbs after this draft. We will see how he does. I guess he had Lefevor also. Peterman will get drafted, though I don't think Coach Jones should take credit for it. I am not sure what your point is, but my comment regarding Urbie was related pretty much to him. I did not say anything about Coach Jones' ability to develop quarterbacks.

No point, just curious, since I am not an expert on the past history of CBJ. Thanks for the info! :good!:

From the AU site:

5-star Emory Jones, Heard County (Ga.): The Ohio State commit would be another tough pull, but he’s someone who Auburn has recently offered and also hosted a few times. Alabama, Florida and Florida State are others showing interest in Jones. I spoke with someone close to Jones’ recruitment at the Under Armour camp in Atlanta last month who said Auburn is nearly an impossible landing spot because it’s too close to home. He wants to step out of his comfort zone for his next destination.

Some kids just want to get away. Franklin is only about 60 miles to Auburn. It is poor and rural and maybe he just wanted to get out of the South for a while.

Yeah, I live about 20 miles from Franklin, and it's very rural. Not sure Columbus would be my choice, but to each his own.

Jones camped at Alabama on Sunday as rumors persist that his family wants him to play closer to home. He has visited Alabama and others without it being public, the Bama visit got leaked.

Jones will visit Tennessee on Thursday on his way up to OSU for their FNL cookout.

YOU said that, not me.

I imagine they would go after Joey Gatewood, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and would try to get in on Fields.

Gotta preempt the panic on here. Reality is of secondary importance. :wink2:

Who is reporting this? Interesting stuff.

I hope this doesn't piss off Martinez...As far as I'm concerned EJ can go jump off a cliff, and Martinez wants to be a Vol. Like I said I hope this doesn't piss him off..unless the staff knows he has secretly visited somewhere else, if he has...let er rip.
