If I remember correctly, OSU coaches worked with Penix at some camp and ever since then, I've had a bad feeling about Penix possibly flipping. Personally, I think a Penix should never be flipped

I personally believe that Martinez is the better QB of the 2

I'm not sure I can disagree. On one hand, Martinez hasn't played in a while due to his injury, but his tape is phenomenal as both a passer and runner. EJ's stock has been sliding just a bit since his quick rise up the rankings. Haven't heard much about him from camps this summer either.

There's just something about Martinez. I like they way he plays, of course, I've only seen highlights, and I like the way he carries himself. I'm really expecting AM to be something special. So, As long as UT hangs on to him, I will be happy. Whether UT keeps Penix or ends up with Jones, either one of them, will end up, eventually backing up Martinez, imo.

Ehhhh, the only difference is, we put all our effort into Jones which is why we missed out on Lawrence. Now we didn't land either one but Martinez wants to be a Vol so I'd just stick with him. He's perfect for our offense and seems like a hard worker.

IMO, we need to sign an elite QB every year so I think it'd be too risky for our coaching staff to go all in for Jones again then him wind up at Bama or somewhere else.

I doubt they'll make the same mistake again.

He's been inconsistent at the camps. Sometimes he will look great and other times he's completely missing receivers. Martinez's film is great and I think he would be a great fit in this offense. Need to stick with him

Would be fitting if Martinez flipped to OSU, and Jones flipped to UT, then 247 bumped to a 5 star and downgraded to a 4 star, respectively.

247 has Emory as a 4*, ranked around #80. Martinez in the 200's

Didn't go I don't think. He's been inconsistent at camps tho. His rankings have reflected that. There was one point he was like a top 20 ranked player on 247 I believe

Honestly if I had to be pick another QB, I'd go with Fields. I think he's better than Jones personally.

It's crazy to think we were leading at one point or another for 3 of the top QB's this class. Lawrence, Fields, Jones.

What differentiates Martinez is his maturity and understanding of passing schemes versus the D he sees. He walks in the door equal to a guy that's been in the system for a year or more. Stay the course.

I think his ranking will go up, he's been hurt all offseason so he hasn't been able to camp.

Whatever happened with Fields? I remember Butch recognizing his talents before the big time schools started calling. We were in the running for a good while.

I say if Penix goes elsewhere, maybe Butch can give him a call and try to get him to visit again.

Yea, Butch got on him very early. I remember a lot on this board complaining about him being a backup plan for EJ and TL lol.

Not 100%, I think when he started really showing Psu love we kinda backed off. But now Fields wants to be closer to home

Dormady would be a fool to go pro after one season as the starter. I don't care what kind of numbers he puts up. That lack of experience will get him eaten alive in the pros. I don't think that's even a consideration.

Yup, and honestly I would be happy if he did. Dominate one season, become a first round pick. It Helps with recruiting elite QB's and also JG could take over as starter and we wouldn't lose a step. I doubt JG would want to watch 2 from sidelines for 3 straight seasons

I get what u are saying, but Trubisky had a lot of hype coming into last year, Dormady doesn't. Hell, about half the fans and media think JG will win the QB battle. I don't tho, I think QD ends up playing 85% of the snaps this year and balls out.

Did some digging and Tennessee is not expecting Jones to be on campus Thursday. It would be news to them if he shows up. Vols are quite happy with Martinez and Penix as their 2018 combo.
