"There are parts of the football facility that I had no idea existed, such as the media center," Fields said. "It was the bomb. We made some really cool videos in there." Along with being a standout player on the gridiron, Fields is a top-flight player on the baseball diamond as well. So, when he learned there could be an opportunity for him to continue his baseball career while playing football at Tennessee it made him excited.
"I learned that the coaching staff will allow me to play baseball if I desire to do so," Fields said. "I'm a football player and prefer to play football. That's my heart. I do like playing baseball as well, though, and I'm pretty good at it. I'm not completely sure I'll be ready to give baseball up when high school is over. But, I might be ready to give it up. It's good to have that option if I'm not."
With a top four of Tennessee, Northwestern, Penn State and North Carolina, it's clear academics are a priority to Fields. It's why he spent more time in the Thornton Academic Center than almost any other place on campus during his visit.
"My parents and I believe in the importance of academics. I make pretty good grades in school," Fields said. "When the ball goes flat, which it will sooner or later, and I can't play anymore, I still would like to have some great life options. I wanted to get a feel for the academic structure and how important it was to the Tennessee football family for student athletes to get a great education."
