'18 GA QB Justin Fields

He has a much tougher opponent tonight in Rome. Rome is two classes down, but one of the top teams in AAAAA this year. They have the RB we are recruiting for 2018 (can't remember his name, but was Rae Sykes little brother if I remember correctly).

Jaylen Sykes (not sure if I speeled it rite...)

Reputable academics at North Carolina ?

Yeah, that whole entire fake college thingy they've had going on for lo these 30 or so years just doesnt seem to resonate with people for some reason. Should've long ago been hit with the death penalty but evidently the basketball program makes UNC, ahem, "too big to fail".

Some serious academic competition there.

Eh.

From an academic perspective, probably wouldn't consider Penn State a national player. Certainly no better than Tennessee.

Recent troubles notwithstanding, UNC is borderline top 5 against other public schools nationally.

Northwestern is a really good school, especially if you don't mind wearing purple and freezing your giblets off half the year.

PSU Med and Engineering programs are pretty dang good.

Fields was 12 of 26 passing for 216 yards and two touchdown passes. He also had 13 carries for 132 yards vs Rome last night.

Had the game winning td on a 65 yard run with 5 minutes to go.

Jalynn Sykes had 3 td's for Rome.

Good stuff. It'll be interesting to see what kind of prospect Sykes ends up being. I'm almost positive he tried to commit at OCD back in the summer, but was told to hold off.

Fortenberry is at Fields game tonight giving updates...

"His Harrison HS team is playing North Cobb and Auburn linebacker commitment Chandler Wooten.

Fields just threw an interception but it's hard to fault him as it hit his receiver in the hands and he just didn't catch it. He's had a couple of nice runs so far and hit a nice deep ball.

North Cobb has a pretty big size advantage so it will be interesting to see how this goes. I'll update throughout the night."

"Fields just threw a touchdown pass. He has really thrown the deep ball well so far. Connected on three over 25 yards."

Are any coaches visiting tonight? I'd imagine a lot of them went out on the recruiting trail tonight.

10-14 181 yds 2 td's. Marietta Daily Journal didn't have rushing stats posted for him. Harrison won to move to 3-0. North Cobb was 7th in AAAAAAA.

Throwing the deep ball very well will do him no good here, he'll never get the opportunity.

Bingo! We won't be landing any recruits, if we keep putting that product on the field from Thursday night.

Oh that's right, teams never land recruits if they have bad games or seasons. Come on. It was a bad game, but if there's any area where Butch deserves some credit, it's recruiting. If Butch and staff don't improve, then we'd better hope there are enough athletes to get us through some games like Thursday night.

Who said anything about not landing recruits due to bad games? I said if we continue to put that product on the field, we won't be landing any recruits. Recruits have been waiting to see the product this year with all the hype around us. They want to see if it's hype or for real. Thus, that's why I made my comment.

And ask anyone on this board who is here frequently what I have consistently said about Butch and this staff's ability to recruit...I've been the one saying that they have earned the respect on the recruiting trail based on the classes they have put together and how fast he has flipped our depleted roster.

OG is as positive as they come. Winning is one thing but recruits want to see that they will be coaches up and prepared for the NFL draft. If that offensive product we saw Thursday is the best we can put on the field and it continues all year then I wouldn't expect high level offensive recruits to wanna jump on our hype train.

I will caveat that by saying, I think that performance is nowhere near indicative of the offensive product we will see the remainder of the year. We will improve and it will be a great year.

Thanks buddy! Our improvement hinges on our OC's ability to fully take the reins off and call aggressive games. Our guys showed they can make the plays when you give them the chance too...Malone, PW. I still can never understand why we are so scared to open it up, unless we are 2-3 scores behind and have to play aggressive.

My apologies. I read it as they shouldn't be recruiting because they needed to be making all the improvements in one night. My point was that it's ridiculous to stop recruiting on an off Friday night because the VOLS played crappy on Thursday.

Is he not right? The one deep ball was a TD. Why not try it a few times ?

No, he's not right. The deep ball is not Dobbs' strength. We should try it more sometimes. But it was called some other times against App State, and Dobbs didn't see it open up or had other miscues. A good downfield passer will look much different running this offense. And making troll comments like that just makes posters look foolish.
