What most of you have to realize is that when you have insufficiencies in the trenches it is hard to over come. This OL is the main issue in offense, but they're not as big of a problem as the actual OL coach. Then you have to think if coaches know this then why not tun a 3 step hot route based offense with a lot of rub and combo routes. We still attempt 5 step drops etc. On the WR issues the entire WR core absolutely despises Azzani. They hate that dumb stance and a lot of his philosophies. People that believe Dobbs isn't a deep ball qb his highlights in the previous 2 O/W gms has been the deep ball. Stop being fooled by a poorly coached offensive tm.

So wait, the WRs hate Azzani? Haven't there been a bunch of quotes about how much the players love him?

I'm not sure how you can act like you know what you're talking about and claim that Dobbs can throw deep balls. Clearly you haven't watched much of the games he's played in. He doesn't just miss deep targets, he commonly misses by 5 yards or more. He doesn't put nearly enough air under the ball to give himself room for error. I have no idea about Azzani and the WR's. I will say that our coaching has been mediocre at best, though, so we can agree there.

No, but I think there would be no positive quotes

CZA is a likable guy, he recruited some of the guys he is coaching. That said there's a difference between being a good guy and a good coach. I have never been impressed with his coaching. I said this last year and was crushed for it but we have far too many talented WRs that are not being developed to their full potential.

Maybe...who are the GREAT WR coaches in college football again? Thought Baggett was supposed to be one for us and it still boiled down to talent in the end.

I've Got this eerie feeling Coach Z will leave this offseason (feels like it's been rumored every year); there will be a fallout at USC w/ Coach Sark after Dark; Tee Martin comes home and Amari signs with the good guys!

I'm screen shooting this for when it actually happens.

Later rednecks!

LOL at using the one deep pass Dobbs has completed in two spring games (against a backup who is no longer playing D1 football no less) as evidence that he's actually a good deep ball passer.

To date, that's the only deep pass down the sideline he's completed in a game situation. If he was actually a good deep ball QB, he'd have at least completed a few more thus far, regardless of how bad the coaching is.

I always like your posts, but got to disagree about the OL being excuse not to throw deep. Have you watched the Memphis vs Cinci game? They threw deep and I do not believe Memphis and Cinci have better OL than us. Now our guys might be poorly coached/schemed, but talent is there imo.

Both those QBs have all day to throw.

Did you not see the deep ball he threw to Malone in the middle of the field against Western Carolina? If Malone doesn't let it bounce of his hands you wouldn't have a point.

I beginning to think some of you don't even watch the games given some of the points y'all make. Josh has excellent arm strength and improved accuracy. We're 3 games into a long season. Have patience and you'll see alot more deep balls like that dropped bomb to Malone get completed.

This is where you have made a wrong turn my friend. Every WR we had degressed once Baggett left. They got lazy, technique were awful, etc. Hinshaw was as bad as Azzani. Ppl saying guys like Justin were tanking it for the NFL not at all it was the poor teaching and weekly work he was doing. Baggett and Trooper were 2 guys I've seen coach WRs and make them work and be elite. Right now they have just as much, if not more WR talent as UT had with Hunter, Rogers, Rodgers, etc but the thing is the current crop are poorly coached

I'm talking about passed down the sideline. Deep passes down the middle are easy. They cover less distance and require less touch.

We have seen no evidence that he has "excellent arm strength" or improved accuracy (at least when it comes to the deep ball). A more honest assessment is that his arm strength is adequate and his accuracy isn't bad. Give me one example of a deep sideline pass we've ever seen him complete other than the pass against against a freshman D'andre Payne in the 2014 spring game. You can't because he hasn't completed any in game situations.

I'm a fan of Dobbs. I want him to succeed. I think he has the tools to be successful. But I'm not kidding myself about his arm. If it was as good as you say it is, then we'd have seen more flashes by now. It may be only 3 games into the season, but it's 3 seasons into his career. He has a limited arm. We've seen no evidence that suggests otherwise.

He threw deep passes to Malone in this yr spring gm. Why are you bringing up 14?

LOL which game did you watch? His longest passes this year were to Pig Howard and Johnathon Johnson. Neither of those were very deep passes and the one to Johnson was underthrown and behind him.

Dormady is the one who threw the 64 yard reception to Malone.

Boy his passing game was lights out against UF wasnt it? You need to face the facts. Dobbs is an excellent athlete but an average to below average passer.

Have to let him throw more than bubble screens, routes in the flat, RB screens before judging him. Not saying he's a great passer either, but he threw some good balls the last drive when we had to move the ball via the passing game.

He threw nice passes the whole game. He missed Josh Smith down the sideline once but no quarterback is perfect. The one he threw VP for a TD (that was called back) was on the money. The other one he threw to VP hit him squarely in the hands and was dropped. I don't know where this Dobbs can't throw is coming from. He was accurate last year. Is this coming from the staff through the media?

I'm not sure we were watching the same play. It was a short throw that could have (probably should have) been intercepted. VP made a great play to go get it. If he had thrown in 3 yards further, it's a much easier TD

It was caught though. That's my point. If you go look at a lot of catches, the coverage are pretty good many times but the receiver goes and get s the ball. I'd have to go back and look at it but I don't remember it being a bad pass but I could be wrong. Usually I notice stuff like that though.

Your definition of accurate must be very different than most. No one has ever accused Dobbs of being "accurate". 90% of the time he throws screen passes into the ground. Past 10 yds he is terrible.

LOL. We haven't thrown the ball enough to make a judgment. The screen passes he throws in the ground are because the defenses had blown them up before they started and he's trying to avoid negative plays and turnovers. A lot of this is because of play calls. 90% of all our play calls are within 5 yards of the LOS. Defenses key on all the short stuff and we can't be them over the top to punish them. Now the reason for that is debatable. Is it because Dobbs can't throw it? Is it because he doesn't have time? Is it the scheme? Debate that all you want but I can name on one hand the number of times we've allowed Dobbs to throw the ball downfield this whole season. Whether you are a Josh Dobbs fan or not we haven't seen enough to make an informed decision.
