'18 GA QB Trevor Lawrence

what would be perfect about your QB situation? Del Rio is a RS Sophmore correct? Doubt he goes early. so 2016, 2017 & 2018. at which point there is Franks who will be a RS. Junior by 2019. probably the favorite for 19 & 20.

so Lawrence is looking at some experienced competition even after a RS year.

not trying to be dismissive of Florida, because I know ours looks the same. But I don't see how it is better than anyone else.

Del Rio will be a Sr when Lawrence arrives so essentially it would be an open race the following year. Trask, Franks, Allen and TL will all have a opportunity to win the job.

UF is in this more than most believe was really my point of previous post.

wasn't debating the bold, just thought you were also talking about the QB competition he would be walking into.

I don't see how that is any different than the open competition Tennessee offers after his first year? You are talking about 2019.

Recruiting wrap: Lawrence is pretty guarded when it comes to revealing who has the edge in his recruitment but conventional wisdom says his top group includes Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee and Florida. Each fan base has their own opinion on where he will go, but only Lawrence truly knows who has the edge at this point. With a commitment likely coming sometime over the next few months, upcoming visits could be key to his decision.

Prediction: Florida. Unlike the other schools on his list, Lawrence could walk into a perfect situation in Gainesville. A recent trip to campus appears to have the school in good position. - Wommack

For the record, Woody is also predicting Emory Jones to the Vols.

UF won't have a returning starter unless one of the underclassmen beat out LDR. Whichever QB wins the Vols job next year would be the frontrunner to win it the year TL enrolls.

I get what you're saying tho.

If Lawrence were to choose Tennessee, he would come in with either Dormady heading into his senior year, Sheriron Jones heading into his junior season or Jarret Guarantano heading into his sophomore season as a starter.

I do not mean to minimize our chances, but that is a stocked QB race. If he were willing to sit through a redshirt season and then come in and compete for the job, it might work out better for us.

Having said all of that, I do not think Lawrence will make his decision based on who has the best opportunity for him to step in and start immediately. If that were true, 3 of his 4 finalists would not have a great setup for that.

So you are assuming we redshirt both Jones and Guarantano somewhere in between. Because if we don't redshirt them Jones and Dormady will be Seniors and Guarantano will be a Junior. More than likely Guaratano will be redshirted and will be a RS Sophmore but I don't see them redshirting Jones.

Pretty sure he red shirted last year

Jones has already redshirted, so he would be a Junior. Guarantano will either be a JR, or a RS Sophomore. Most likely a RS So, because he will sit this year behind Dobbs, and likely wont get 2nd team reps.

Tough read. He admits he grew up a UT fan but says it won't impact his decision and downplayed his and his family's UT fanship in general. He didn't really talk up any school. Stated that he's not afraid to compete when asked about Emory Jones. Mentioned he is friends with Chase Brice and keeps up with the 2017 QBs, but reiterated that he wasn't afraid to compete. Says now may not be ready to commit before his season starts. Said specifically that he "liked Florida a lot". Also, mentioned visiting Oklahoma. Appears to be a UT, UGA, UF, Clemson, Oklahoma contest right now. My guess is that it is still mainly UT and UGA with UF starting to look like a real contender, maybe even moving from darkhorse to front runner. Bama or UF are the only two schools that it would be painful for me to see a East TN-born elite player choose over UT. UGA would disappoint, but not hurt (plus, he's lived in GA for awhile, so it'd be more understandable). UF has yet to have a successful QB alum in the NFL. TL would very likely change that, which would only further help the school recruit in the future (the last thing we need).

There is no way in my mind any school should or would take another QB in 2018 over this guy (including E. Jones, who appears to be elite also). I just think TL is on another level of elite and has the potential to be one of the best QB of his generation.

Watch OU and Florida here. No denying this dude is a stud. However, for vols, if Jones wants to come to the hill it's not a consolation prize. The dual threat aspect can not be understated. How many pocket passers have beat Bama in the past 8 yrs or so? UGA will put together a defense very similar. Keep calm and trust the staff.

I think we have Jones rated higher so as long as we can land him, I really don't mind where Mr. Lawrence goes.

Except for the fact that Lawrence actually runs the ball better. Oh, but wait, I forgot he was white...

I'm no scholar, but when you can write your own ticket, probably be better than any other person on the roster, at your position, and your family favorite is clearly poised to rise to a perinnel top 10 program by the time you arrive on campus, giving you the opportunity to lead the charge into a new era of dominance for that program...

I don't know. The math is pretty simple, IMO

Maybe TL isn't good at math?..It sounds like he wants to go anywhere but UT.

Peyton ushered in a new era in TN football. I'd give TL the history lesson and ask him if he's ready to take his place
