'18 GA QB Trevor Lawrence

If Lawrence were to choose Tennessee, he would come in with either Dormady heading into his senior year, Sheriron Jones heading into his junior season or Jarret Guarantano heading into his sophomore season as a starter.

I do not mean to minimize our chances, but that is a stocked QB race. If he were willing to sit through a redshirt season and then come in and compete for the job, it might work out better for us.

Having said all of that, I do not think Lawrence will make his decision based on who has the best opportunity for him to step in and start immediately. If that were true, 3 of his 4 finalists would not have a great setup for that.

I understand what you are saying. My opinion on this is different but certainly not popular. I think if you are committed to playing in the SEC and if you want to win then you go where the competition is the strongest. If you end up behind somebody you are going to push that person to his limit- hopefully that equals greatness but you can settle for wins. And even if you are delegated to a backup spot you are literally one play away from starting. You'll come in the game and blow the competition out of the water because (a) they weren't ready for you and (b) you're not some half brained QB. This is something that top talent either learns in college or in the NFL. Sometimes have to choose to be patient. If they really want to be winners it will drive them that much more.

Edit: after rereading your post we probably agree more than I realized. Sorry.

I will be surprised if he doesn't choose Tennessee. Doesn't the kid who admits to having grown up a fan of a team usually play that down when his recruitment starts? He wants everyone to think they're on equal footing and to pursue him aggressively. However, 2 full football seasons will be played between now and NSD 2018. I expect us to have a great season in 2016 but 2017 is a big unknown... and there is a Guarantano x-factor here. Every QB says they don't shy away from competition but that's hardly ever true. If Guarantano redshirts this year and then wins the starting job in '17? Of course that will matter.

Pshhh. Just move Guarantano to TE to replace Hurd since he will be going into the draft after this year.

Just make sure to check with Leb, and/or CrunchingTheVolz to make sure the numbers will still allow it.

Florida and Georgia meeting with Lawrence today. I believe his team has spring practice. Wonder if Chaney eats Florida's OC if he gets hungry?

Chaney has absolutely ballooned since leaving UT, and he was a big boy here. Now he looks like he ate Charlie Weis.

If our biggest problem is JG becomes a superstar and we don't land an elite 2017 QB recruit BC of that

We are clearly in white people problem land

TL had a throwing session for UF after practice. Heard Chaney wasn't happy. He probably ate a few coaches and some kids as dessert on the way out.

Watch OU and Florida here. No denying this dude is a stud. However, for vols, if Jones wants to come to the hill it's not a consolation prize. The dual threat aspect can not be understated. How many pocket passers have beat Bama in the past 8 yrs or so? UGA will put together a defense very similar. Keep calm and trust the staff.

Bo Wallace and Chad Kelly

It would be difficult for Jesus to overcome a 5-0 turnover differential in the sec. So Kelly is an asterisks.... however both of those guys were threats to get outside the pocket and extend plays. I think bo was even the leading rusher in his win.
