I still wonder why he excluded us, his favorite childhood team, so early in the process before the start of his junior year. I want to believe that we could still get back in it, but he seems dead set on Clemson or Georiga...Still not sure why Clemson is in it, but not us..

Fortenberry made a comment that some quarterbacks have put in phone calls to our staff lately. The question was asked, Who?

Here's Fortenberry's response…

"2018 guys. I think they've been in touch with Lawrence (not sure if anything comes from it). And from Oregon commitment Carson Yankoff. He visited here this summer."

It could mean that they don't feel as confident about Fields. Volquest did publish an article on Penix today, so there's that.

It could mean, that they'll still go after top notch recruits like Lawrence and show him how he can throw the ball in this system and how there are a lot of young recruits who are ballers.

Or, it could mean that they reached out to 2 prospects who might be seeing coaching changes in some of their current top schools at the end of this year.

I think the main thing holding back our recruitment of Lawrence and that DT guy whose name I'm blanking on is our depth chart. We have 3 really good QBs on our roster already, with our most prominent one still with 4 years left. I get the whole confidence in their own ability argument for 4 & 5* recruits, but there are more open situations than ours. I'll be looking for a top 5 QB in the 19 class.

You talking about Fields? Pretty sure you are.

As for me I am a pretty greedy guy so I want as many great QBs on my roster as possible :).

I agree.Who ever comes in the 18 class might red shirt and then still sit for a couple of more years after that.Not the ideal situation for early pt.

I beg to differ.If we were a pro style O it's not a big deal to Lawrence.He knows JG has a huge advantage in that we like a running qb.It just makes our offense click when our QB can run as well as throw.Plus JG has every bit as good of a arm as TL.

We absolutely need a top QB in 2018. We are banking on Guarantano being as productive as Dobbs, which is a huge ask. Moreover, assuming we land CJ Lewis in 2017, our QB roster will not look that great next season. I think Dormady is a quality QB, but he has not proven a thing in this offense. If Guarantano struggles or gets hurt, and the same goes for Dormady, we will want a top QB waiting to step on the field. Sheriron Jones is another unknown at this point. Hopefully, that will not happen because you would want that QB to redshirt his first year on campus to learn the system and adapt.
