'18 GA QB Trevor Lawrence

Butch has been close to JG and his father for a long time. I hope JG is great, but he has yet to take a snap. We had no idea what's he's going to do here...Lawerence is an excellent passer, but the kid has wheels as well. Mark my words the no true qb coach situation will be taken care of after the season.

We barely run with Dobbs anyway and Lawerence is definitely more than capable of running when needed. Kid grew up a VFL. Let's get him

Wuht? Dobbs rushing is a vital part of this offense.

It is, but let's be real here, his rushing has not occurred near as much this season as of today. I think the point people are making is that Lawrence could excel here, because he is still mobile enough to keep the defense honest. He won't tear you up with his legs, but he could do some damage. But he will be an excellent passer which is a huge upgrade, and the past few weeks have shown our offense can throw the ball.

I agree.Who ever comes in the 18 class might red shirt and then still sit for a couple of more years after that. Not the ideal situation for early pt.

There is no way this is a factor when you look at the other two schools he's considering....

Tennessee has a huge project committed in the '17 class at QB.

Clemson has a 5* QB in this incoming class, granted I think he's overrated but still that's a huge difference from what we have in the '17 class

and

Georgia has Fromm, who IMO is the best QB prospect in the '17 class.

If depth chart was a big factor Tennessee would be in the best shape of the bunch.

i really think they can sell this kid on becoming the next Peyton. i couldn't really imagine a more perfect situation then for him to come here.

Bama will have Hurts, Georgia will have Eason, I don't see him traveling out West or up North into the cold.

Not having a true QB coach is not an issue with Lawrence in my opinion. Neither is having a roster with a high profile QB. His final two is UGA and Clemson. Both have 5* QB's on their roster.

His issue, again in my opinion, is that he is much more comfortable in a standard I formation offense that makes the best use of his abilities. He does have mobility, but the\ie isn't a recruiting service or scout that would rate his as a dual threat QB. It is why Quintin Dormady is not considered a dual threat QB. He does have mobility, but he is not a threat as a runner.

Why are you only looking at the 17 class? Clemson only has one viable FR QB on their roster, who along with Hunter Johnson (and I agree that he's overrated, and probably isn't very mobile) are his only competition. Much better situation than ours.

Georgia on the other hand has Eason for at least 2 more years at the helm, and then just Fromm to compete with at that point. Still a better situation than ours.

He may think he would feel more comfortable, but he's taken pretty much every snap in his high school career from the shotgun, so he wouldn't know from experience.

Disagree on Georgia. That is not a more open just b for an incoming freshman than ours

No one has yet one our 2017 qb job

Eason will lock theirs down for 2-3 more years

Well that eliminates Georgia and Clemson. With that, his best options are Miami and Stanford.

Clemson has 4* Chase Brice and 5* Hunter Johnson both coming in for the 2017 class. UGA has 4* Fromm and 5* Eason for the next several years.

Tennessee has 4* Quinten Dormady (little experience) who will be a SR when TL arrives, Sheriron Jones (no experience) who will be a rJR, and Jarrett Guarantano (no experience) who will be a rSO, plus CJ Lewis (questionable take, at best).

I don't really see how CU or UGA's situation looks "much better than ours". If anything, they are even, and he probably feels like there is less actual talent to overcome at Tennessee based solely on recruiting rankings.

My exact point. Yes we have some designed runs but overall they aren't needed when you have a QB who has a good arm and is good at moving in the pocket. Kid can play

All of this. Again if he's looking at depth chart / early PT, Tennessee is a better situation than Clemson / Georgia. For a kid entering college for the 2018 season you look around who you are going to have to compete with during your entire time at a school, which would mainly be focused in your own class and the class ahead of you.

I think he ends up at Clemson over UGA right now with Eason established. No reason for him to rush into a decision though. If I were him I would wait to see how Clemson and TN do next year with their New QBs.
