With two running back spots open, Buford (Ga.) running back Anthony Grant is a prime candidate to fill the void. He was in Knoxville again on Saturday and was all smiles after leaving Rocky Top.
"Every time I come here, it feels more and more like home," Grant said. "There wasn't anything really different. It's on my mind (to commit), but I'm going to wait a couple of more weeks."
Grant will decide over the next few weeks between Tennessee, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Auburn has also come very hard at him of late, but the Tigers may be late to the party. Grant has visited the Hokies, Heels and Vols over the last few weeks and says he has a "home" type feel at each school.
"I get a long with coach G very well," Grant said. "Every time we talk, he calls me about everything and it gets better and better. I talk to him about everything, grades and everything. I feel laid back with him. He's a great guy."
With a need at tailback, Tennessee has made both Grant and Lyn-J Dixon high priorities. Grant sees the need and possibility for early playing time and it appeals to him. "It's very important," Grant said. "That's what I want to do is make an early impact."
Grant and his high school teammate, Christian Turner, both went over 1,000 yards last year. He fully-understands splitting time and that's why the tandem of he and Dixon is a positive and not a negative. "Lyn-J and I have been talking about for a while now" Grant said, smiling. "I like It."
