'18 JUCO OG Johncarlo Valentin

It was days away. HS coach had a contact at Oklahoma. Brown had to complete several classes in the Summer and barely qualified. Been a solid student ever since. IIRC he was at 400 LBS his junior year.

Now he's 1st team AA. Along with his QB.

Thank you for your Insight, Butchna.

OV to UT this weekend...

THE SKINNY: Valentin is a former Oklahoma commit who went the JUCO route after not meeting the necessary NCAA qualification scores. He actually knows Tennessee's offensive lineman Trey Smith from their time together at The Opening. Valentin is a May graduate and will sign in February.

Just got done talking with Valentin...

The OL from ASA College in NYC came away very impressed with the Vols. He said it gave him "goosebumps" when he walked into Neyland Stadium. The former Oklahoma signee has 3 years to play 2.

Vols definitely pitched their depth concerns. Noted he can come in and compete/start on Day 1. He measured 6-4, 340. Has already taken a visit to Mizzou. Has OVs planned for Kansas and Baylor. Will make his decision on NSD in February.

Overall, Vols made a really nice impression. He's a humble kid, liked Will Friend, but you could tell he enjoyed his visit. Full story to come.

“It was better than what I expected. It was very, very business oriented. That’s what I like, especially being a JUCO guy. I definitely like it. I really did,” Valentin said. “The atmosphere, being at Neyland Stadium and walking in, I kind of got those goosebumps. This is a great stadium.”

In addition to the the facilities, Valentin, more importantly, was impressed with the Vols coaching staff — starting with head coach Jeremy Pruitt. “He’s a great person. The kind of guy I’d like to play for,“ Valentin offered. “With the staff, it seems to me like they have the right pieces.”

Valentin said he spent a good bit of time talking X's and O's with offensive line coach Will Friend, but admitted he's good with any position anyone wants to play him at. He did like Friend's approach to things this weekend. “He’s a guy that’s very honest,” Valentin offered. “He doesn’t hold his tongue for anything. If he feels like you’re (BS’ing) he’ll tell you. But he’s also one of those guys who if you’re doing the right thing he’ll let you know. He’ll make you feel like. I like that. You can’t beat that.”

“Like old times. Seeing some familiar faces,” Valetin said. “Me and Trey hit it off at The Opening. I knew he was going to be good.”

“This is a business decision for me. This is not a luxury trip,” Valentin explained. “I need to go somewhere I know where I can get to the league. That next level. That next step.

“I definitely would say Tennessee is up there. They’re fighting for a spot. Like I said, anything can happen. I owe no school any ties. I’m a humble guy. I want to wait this process out and make sure it’s the best thing for me and my family.”

Good to see us recruiting OL who actually look the part. No more slight, slender-shouldered fellers.
