'18 LA CB/WR Eddie Smith

I’ll be there in a few months. Are you trying to get in the right seat at a regional soon?

Sounds like that's what you're doing. I'm an old guy, never been an aviation professional. Among other things, I do PA-18-150 on skis and floats for fun, one weekend a year. Only guy I know in your area flies out of M54.

Oh, yeah, I'm starting to get optimistic about this Smith kid.

NFL players fall for it all the time as well. It’s called being human. The safety is forced to choose as the routes, as they are designed, force him. If he goes high and outside, the route of the middle has single, and vice versa. It happens at the highest levels of football and is often a no win situation. He went with the QBs eyes, as even nfl safeties often do, and Tua made him pay for the wrong decision. This wasn’t bad coaching, it was a decision made by a player trying to make a play in the most pressure packed situation.
and it helps that, that concept is a cover 2 beater.

Smith, a 3-star prospect from Slidell, La., has a high regard for Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt. The Vols’ new coach has a great defensive mind and his specialty is coaching defensive backs.

Smith knows there is a difference between Tennessee and Alabama in terms of the current on-field product. He thinks that’ll change soon, though.

“I really have a lot of faith in Pruitt,” Smith told SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner. “He’s a great coach and a great recruiter. He’s going to attract a lot of great players. I think if you go to Alabama, you’re going to instantly win games and win championships. If you go somewhere like Tennessee, it’s taking a risk. But I don’t think it’s going to be a risk with Pruitt because of all the athletes he’s going to attract.

“I think he’s going to change the program around. It’s probably not going to happen this year, but it will happen eventually.”

Pruitt and the coaching staff have been winning over a number of prospects on the recruiting trail with their message and consistency. They have clearly caught Smith’s eye.

It is important that Pruitt is already receiving positive feedback on his vision for the Vols. He never has been a head coach or part of a rebuild. His message resonating this early with recruits is a positive sign.

Pruitt didn’t spend any time disparaging his former team, Alabama, which stood out to Smith.

“He didn’t say anything negative about Alabama,” Smith said. “That’s what I like. I don’t like a coach to come here and say negative things about any other program. Pruitt said that Alabama is a great program and it’s always going to be a great program, but he knows that he’s going to make Tennessee a better program.

“He wants me to be a part of Tennessee. He was just showing me the defensive schemes [on Tuesday], and I think they’re going to be good.”

It’s likely no surprise Pruitt knew the right way to approach the situation. Bashing his old team would have left him in a negative light with Smith. Expect Pruitt to take the high road when talking about Alabama. That seems to be the right move.

Tennessee lost four corners off of its 2017 roster and there are no cornerback commits this cycle.

A good shot at early playing time has been a consistent message from the coaching staff, but the Vols aren’t the only ones selling the opportunity.

“Tennessee is really weak at the cornerback spot right now, and, shoot, Alabama is, too,” Smith said. “Both schools are looking for guys to come in and play immediately. Mississippi State has cornerbacks already, but the thing with Mississippi State is that they rotate cornerbacks a lot. I have the opportunity to play right away at all three schools.”

Smith ranks as the No. 66 corner in the class, according to the 247Sports composite.

But don’t let his 3-star rating fool you. The 6-foot, 178-pound prospect can play, and he could be a difference-maker for Tennessee next season.

He took an official visit to Rocky Top two weekends ago and came away impressed. He will be in Alabama this weekend for his final official visit.

This will be a close one down the stretch — and one the Vols need to win.

eddie smith will visit alabama this weekend, and while the tide are trying to make a move, tennessee remains in a good spot right now. Those close to smith want him at tennessee over alabama, but the decision remains his, so we’ll see what all is being said after his visit this weekend.

I wonder if the people complaining about OG's family pressuring him to go to usc are ok with Eddie's pressuring him to go to tennessee. Haha. Hopefully both choose the Vols.
Easy.

OG needs to spread his wings, make his mark, create his own legacy away from home.

Eddie needs to listen to his family, mama knows best, family over everything. :)

I think it's great that we are competing for recruits that Bama wants. Our coaches are grinding and looking for players every where and these recruits are listening to what they have to say. We aren't going to win them all but we have to go head to head with these big dogs to get back to where we need to be.

Depends on situation.

In this case, OG family is deciding between staying close to home or going to the better staff for their sons abilities. I never fault a family for wanting their child within reach.

Eddie is leaving regardless. So not a distance issue. I think his family and those close likely are skeptical like we are that Saban is being truthful about his place on their board and available playing time. While you can play in same defense elsewhere with a clear path to playing time.

Both should choose TN. I won't blame OG if he doesn't. Eddie on other hand would be wise to choose TN over Bama

I know we have TS still coming for an official Feb 2, but have we used OV and in-home already with Griffin and Smith? This could be either really good or really bad... Still enough time to let the shine fade on the OV to Bama before signing day and their class is filling up.

We already had our ov and in-home with griffin and eddie

I think those that are the fence or questionable are receiving their in-home up font to get them out the way.

They've both taken their OV

Everybody has sources. All about who you know and trust. Both AP and I believe Tennessee remains the team to beat. As he noted in the chat last night, Buckley at MSU is a threat, as is Alabama getting the last visit, but those close to Smith prefer him at Tennessee.

Smith is as good as a CB we've recruited the past few years.

Griffin is ready now.

Palmer is same boat as Smith.

Campbell would be a star in our secondary.

A lot of DB talent in this class...

Griffin could double as a PR/KR.

Butch just tweeted he's got to work on his eye discipline. #thenightmare is over
