"It was great and they had the chance to talk to my mom because she didn't get to come visit," Smith said. "My mom liked them. He showed me the defense he runs and how he hides the coverage he runs. He showed me the schemes so it went very well." "He came down and told some jokes," Smith said. "I didn't know he was that funny. We talked business and watched a lot of film. Just showed me how they will use their defense."
Defensive backs coach Terry Fair and wide receivers coach David Johnson joined Pruitt on the in-home visit with the Smith family. The relationship between Fair and Smith continues to grow by the day. "Since they offered, it's been an every day thing," Smith said. "He texts me to check on me every day. He calls me every day and develops that relationship that he wants for his DBs. He's been on me hard. There isn't a day that goes by that we don't talk to each other."
"It's great knowing I'm their guy," Smith said. "They show me that as well. They are weak at the cornerback spot. That's obvious. That starting spot is mine if I come in and work for it. If I come in and do what I know how to do then I can be a big time player early. The defense that Pruitt showed me, you can shine in it because it's confusing for a quarterback. They show blitz and don't or vice versa."
Earlier in the evening, Smith and his family hosted Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The veteran championship coach knows how to win the in-home visit and made sure to point out his track record with the secondary. "That visit went good too," Smith said. "He's a great coach obviously, but he might as well be the defensive back's coach. He was telling me the techniques and everything. He was telling me how they would use me. Everyone thinks you have to sit out a year if you go to Bama, but that's not true at all."
