'18 MD DT P.J. Mustipher

When you get an elite DL/DE/DT to commit, you are thankful.
You never ever say no to elite DL.
If 4 want to be Vols this year, you take all 4.
Only 3 of these 4 are true DTs. The 4th is likely a DE.

By the way, if you have 3 sets of elite DTs (6 total), then you rotate 3 sets. Always full speed when they are in. Increased ferocity. Decreased injury risk because they aren't tired. There is no downside. Unless you are the opposing OL.

85 scholarship players.

22 1st string
22 2nd string
22 3rd string

Leaves you 19 players. 1 LS, 1 punter, 1kicker, 1 backup kicker.
Stil leaves you 15 players. 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 TE,
4 DTs, 4 DEs, leaves you 4 more spots.
That gives you 10 DTs and 10 DEs.

Not 4 every year, but there will not be 4 elite DTs every year that want to be part of Tennessee. Takes em when you can gets em.

I am finished here. (I would take linemen for the last 4 spots too).

Better hope you absolutely crush your evaluations and for no injuries. Better have the best conditioning in the country too.

And that's how you impose your will on an opponent. Defense wins championships. That's why I'm hoping Shoop gets back to form and that last year was just an anomaly.

I believe if we can get cb play and de play shoop will show everyone the kind of defenses he can produce. He was doing pretty well year one until injuries mounted

we lost another DE today. still need 4 DTs? I believe as things stand we will have more DTs on scholarship than DEs. there is something deeply wrong with that.

It's about equal. Depends on what Matthew Butler starts out as. 7 or 8 of each right now. But obviously no experience behind Kongbo, Taylor, and Phillips. The rest are freshmen. And those three aren't exactly seasoned veterans.

So all things equal who is the better D coordinator?

Shoop or Aranda?

My LSU buddies keep going on all the time about Aranda.

Granted few counted him as one of our de's.

better tell the coaches and UTs financial department that. He was on scholarship. and if you didn't count him, and you wanted 4 DTs this year I have an even harder time taking that seriously.

Agree......works well for bama....elite dlines that can be rotate with no drop off are very hard to maintain a high level of physicality they just wear you down over course of the game

Yessir. Saw it for many years with the Vols' OL when CPF was closely involved with the Oline.
They were such a deep and dominant group that the UT OL just destroyed opponents' Oline. The more aggressive linemen would let the DL know that the RB is coming through your gap. And nothing you can do about it. When Charlie Garner, Aaron Hayden, and Little Man Stewart were in the same backfield, Tennessee almost had 3 1,00 yard rushers the same year. They were all really good RBs, but their Oline all went to the NFL too. Tennessee used to churn out NFL linemen. It was amazing to watch the 4 lane highways they would open for the RBs.

Got it covered.
Crush my evals and my opponents :)

Gotta have great S&C regardless of the makeup of your team. :hi:

Im talking about posts here not coaches and he was already gone once. I havent seen his name on any projected depth chart, have you?

I haven't seen any depth charts. and considering we are talking about NEEDING to be 4 deep with stars at DT; I would assume that would apply to DE too. In which case he would be on the depth chart.

Big weekend with PJ, PSU is hosting a few recruits but the priority is Mustifer and they've got a ceremony planned to impress him. Franklin will as him to commit and pledge not to take any more visits.

I wouldn't be comfortable going to any "ceremonies" at PSU. You'll either be incompasitated and left for dead or lead to the showers for a "surprise"

If he doesn't commit this weekend to PSU I will be very happy . Gives the good guys some more chances to get him .

PSU will always be a distant nothing compared to OSU and Michigan

Ehhhh.. don't know about that.

As much as I dislike Franklin and everything that's gone on there...

From a historical standpoint, Penn St is pretty legit.
