'18 MS CB Jaylon Reed (Former UT commit)

Well we got the "Lando Boys" (Cross and Ingle) so I'm interested in seeing what they will do with Reed now.

Yeah this sentence makes my head hurt...

But I'm assuming he meant to say, The two want to play together but haven't found a team willing to make that happen. Vols back in it.

Hubbs has an uncanny knack of leaving out the operative word.

My interpretation of that is

-- the two want to play together
-- Reed backed of TN because we didn't consider his BFF a take
-- There are schools willing to take both of them
-- The duo can't agree upon any of the schools willing to take both of them, to attend

Like someone else said, not a good first impression to try and strong arm a University offering you such an incredible opportunity.

I'm wondering if we land Horn, paired with Cross and Ingle, if we still have room for Reed. Or if we'd bump one of our guys like Ingle and give the scholly to Reed.

At this point, I doubt we're bumping a currently committed DB to make room for a guy who tried make a power play on us. Loyalty in recruiting is almost a forgotten thing, but in this case I think it holds true. Reed isn't the can't miss type of guy you bulldoze over someone to land. If we take him, it's because we had room already, IMO.

agreed. this staff has a profile and a type of kid they want. and i seriously doubt, unless he is some uber talented, can't miss, day 1 impact, type player, that you make any concessions to that profile.....

and i don't think this kid is that kind of player. if we take him at this point, it's because there's room....i don't see us making room.

Think you all are reading a lot into one terribly worded quote. Just because he wants to play with one of his friends and backed off his commitment doesn't mean he was trying to strong arm the staff.

You're right. I should have qualified my statement by tagging "if" to the reference of power-playing the staff instead of leaving it assumed. Obviously I have no idea how things transpired, but I should have noted that.

I saw Surtain get whipped on a few reps at the opening. I'm not sure that's a good venue to judge how good a DB is.

The rules they got in the NFL and College makes it hard for DBs to cover WRs without getting a Holding or Pass Interference when the ball is thrown towards their way. You can't hardly play 1 on 1 coverage anymore if you're a DB.
