'18 MS CB Jaylon Reed (Former UT commit)

I wasn't hurt one bit.

Will you hold me?

Only if you are big and fluffy like my teddy bear!

It was a legitimate question by the way, not an insinuation that you were getting bent out of shape. Other than you not liking what recruiting has done to change the connotation of the word "committed" what harm is done by this kid committing early and then changing his mind a month later? None.

other than another example of it not meaning much at all to commit, no harm was done.

Here's what Reed told VQ after he committed to UT. No doubt it's these kind of comments that frustrate people when he decommitts 6 weeks later.

"When I got down there, it felt like a home away from home," Reed said. "It wasn't too far from my family, but was far enough for me to grow up on my own. I like the coaches and the environment. Plus I like the 2017 class and they are gong to be something good to go along with my class when all is said and done."

"I saw the depth chart on the defensive backs, but it wasn't just that," Reed said. "I took my whole family. I took my grandparents, my sister, my mom and my little cousin. Those people are important to me. They actually recruited them more than me. They got my family happy and that made me happy."

At 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, Reed is long and rangy. He has the length and speed to be a nightmare for opposing passing attacks. "I'm just a ballplayer," Reed said. "There isn't much more to it. I think my length helps me a lot. I have a big wingspan and run a 4.48. I think it's my length and my speed."

First year Vol assistant Charlton Warren is working overtime to develop his current team, while recruiting for the future. He and Reed hit it off right away. "He's really straight forward," Reed said. "He told me he liked my abilities. When we were talking, he broke down my film and didn't even have to pull it up so he had really studied me before having us on campus."

And as for head coach Butch Jones, Reed feels like his demeanor trickles down to those around him. "He's a really humble guy," Reed said. "He's just a real guy. I like the whole staff at Tennessee. They all care about their players. Like coach Warren and coach (Bob) Shoop helped seal the deal for me."

I like this kid, but he's far from irreplaceable. We're in on some other good defensive backs. Have fun never playing in a bowl game at Ole Miss.

And then de-commits shortly after... ? Whatever...

Per Jesse Simonton when asked if the coaches were caught off guard.

Yes. They were surprised. Reed always a guy UT was going to have to fight for.

Per Austin Price when asked if the coaches were caught off guard.

Not totally. Jaylon wants to play with Jamarion Jones.

Per Hubbs - 4 star top 250 status confirmed

His stock is rising as Alabama has offered. He was at Ole Miss last weekend and things seemed to change from there.
