'18 MS CB Jaylon Reed (Former UT commit)

Lots of chase-downs on plays to the other side of the field in his highlights. I like that effort and speed from a CB - big plays are 20-30 instead of house calls, that's important. Will play physical despite only being listed at 170.

Wish there was more footage of how he plays when the ball is in the air. Would like to see whether he finds the ball and makes a play. As it is, hard to tell if teams just don't test him or if the results aren't highlight-worthy. Not a negative... just an unknown. But he has good speed and appears to cover well at the HS level.

Solid offer list. I like the pickup.

I lived in Olive Branch for 9 years and still keep up with the team some. Highest classification in MS, 6A, but I think they are dropping to 5A next year. In addition to South Panola every year in conference, his highlights include Brentwood Academy and Memphis University School, so he has played against high level competition. His film supports his claim to run 4.48 40 with multiple TD saving plays. I don't care what his rating is, I like this pickup!

I have a feeling that Reed is going to be one of those recruits that is going to explode with offers as more teams see him play or see him in camps.

The only thing that would concern me is that he gets 2 or 3 offers that turn his head and he ends up de-committing in the fall.

We are loading up the 3 stars again i just don't think 7 4 stars and 17 3 stars will take you to the top when the Dawgs and gators are loading up with 4 and 5 stars.:thud:

To be fair it was the same way last cycle and Florida finished in front of us.

I don't know man I think there are a lot of Vol "fans" that won't ever be happy unless every recruit is a 5 star player so we could have 17 4 stars and 2 5 stars and the same people would still be complaining and those people are morans and they are called the Legion of the Miserable and no one likes them because they are dumb and have small hands and smell like cabbage but what do I know I'll just hang up and listen John Currie sucks and Fulmer should have been AD because he he is a VFL GBO

There's no question they need to pick it up. I have much more confidence it will happen this year as opposed to last year though. The recruiting staff last year was pretty bad overall. It's much better now.

Like the VQ mods mentioned in their podcast today as long as they don't get panicky (like Butch at times is prone to do) and start taking a bunch of Plan B and C guys when the Plan A guys are still on the board it'll be a much better class than last years.

That, and there's a couple of guys we already have or are working on getting that may end up being boosted from 3 to 4 stars.
