'18 MS CB Jaylon Reed (Former UT commit)

The 2018 class commitments at this point feels so much different than the 2017 one did at this point last year.

It seemed like half of the class for 2017 seemed like early commitments who may have been a reach. There's maybe only 1 or 2 of those at this point and every 'insider' seems to say that those prospects haven't been fully evaluated yet or it could be a grades issue.

If UT gets Martinez, another top RB (Dixon, Teague, Franklin), one more receiver, one more OL, clean up on the DL with the instate guys and get a gamechanger in either the secondary or at LB, then this class may or may not be top 10, but it will be exactly what they needed!

Don't want to divulge too much insider info but the Scout guys say Reed is the best player we have taken in all the April commits.

then they need to update their rankings to match. I would say in general scout's ranking are further behind the rest than usual.

They are behind because they still don't have a recruiting director. They are sort of running like a ship without a rudder and a lot of their stuff has not been updated.

Apparently Rivals doesn't think too highly of him...

This is how Rivals defines their 3 star rankings...

5.7-5.5 All Region Selection: considered among the region’s top prospects and generally among the nation’s top 800-850 prospects overall, a potential All-Conference candidate and a player deemed to have mid to low-end pro potential and ability to impact at the college level.

Well, I don't like to lose commitments, but it happens all the time and we often get a replacement that ends up being even better.

Good luck to Jaylon as he reopens his recruitment. I hope he finds the right place for him.

Working on more info now. Believe Reed visited Alabama yesterday. Texas coming after him, too. Ole Miss is after Reed, too. That was his very first offer. He attended the Rebels camp on Friday.

I knew something was up when he was following all those ole miss players and deleted Tennessee commit in his bio . Ole well

This hurts. We need secondary help. But its the nature of the business. And its still relatively early in the process so we can get some other guys.

Wish him the best, unless he's playing against us. Then I hope Jatavious and Alontae and crew eat him alive.

With everything swirling around Ole Miss at this point we probably dodged a bullet. I'd have to question anyone's decision making that would be willing to consider them.
