'18 TN DB Brendon Harris (UT Commit 5/19/17)

Hey, I'm with ya. Those games are history and can't do anything about it now.

If you look at why I posted in the first place was in response to another post, so my post was relevant at that moment.

My main concern is Butch's coaching pattern of at least 2 games per year he snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

Also, my post is just my opinion. I don't need validation from anyone else.

The coaching staff changes will hopefully fix that.
I am hoping for a season of taking no prisoners nor backing off at any point.
Crushing the opposition from the beginning is the best way to season the backups.
Clear the bench every game that you possibly can.

We wouldn't have needed the Hail Mary if Hurd hadn't decided to stroll the last 5 yds into the EZ in the 1st half, costing UT a TD. I blame Jancek for the UF loss. His D was outstanding for almost the entire game then he choked when the game was on the line.

I totally get what your saying. This touchdown helps to seal the deal. Hurd dogged that play and cost us 7 points, but it's bigger than that. It's a philosophy issue with Butch. He plays traditional and safe. He's a percentage guy and the play where Eason throws 75 yds for the score to take the lead should never have happened.

Butch kicks the extra point instead of going for two against Florida when everybody else with half a brain knows 1 point is meaningless but 2 is a game changer.

Great coaches go for the throat every play. See Steve Spurrier for reference. I hate the bastard, but I dang sure respect him. He basically said if you don't want me to score every play then stop me.

Applachain st last year was an eye opener for me. We out manned them at every position and they took us to overtime. This happened because of game planning by appy st and in game adjustments by our staff. Where is your injuries in that game excuse makers.

Our o liNE was swiss cheese and we couldn't figure out how to adjust.

Go back to the Oklahoma game in knoxville. We have them whipped and they opened the blitz flood gate on defense because there was nothing else to lose. Once again we leave our QB in the pocket when obviously our linemen can't pick up a frigging stunt from lineman, linebackes or defensive backs.

God forbid we move dobbs out of the pocket where danger exists to protect him and make life easier. No, we leave him in the pocket and let the blitz swallow him up. We're up by 17, let's sit on our lead.

Blame mahoney, but DEboard is here. He's an oline guy. The only constant is Butch. Its his team. He's the CEO

Look at it like this. Poor old Saban shouldn't be held accountable for losing the national championship. I mean he's had the number 1 recruiting class for the past 10 years. Maybe his guys was in a hotel by a train tracks and didn't get good sleep, but Dabo's guys got more sleep and were more focused. We shouldn't think it was Saban's fault. Maybe some of his starters were hurt or had a cold.

We can throw out excuses all day, but Butch is handed the same expectations as all the other coaches in the SEC and has to figure out how to win with the cards he's dealt.

U sound like someone thats never managed people. No its not acceptable to lose to vandy or usc. Thats a different argument. My point is playing them straight up we should & would have won. U said our 3td string should have beaten them & thats just plain childish.
U speak of Bama. The fact is they have:the Best coach, best players, most money, best facilities & an administration in there back pocket & Saban still loses about one game a year that he shouldnt. That doesnt mean hes not doing a good job. They have been favorites by vegas for nearly ten years straight for a reason. Its coaches job to get them ready but its the players that win & lose games. Like Saban, Butch never threw a pic, fumbled, dropped a touched, missed a fg or tackle, committed a penalty etc. Against OK, FL Ga or anyone else.
Butch has to win or hes gone bottom line. But the idea hes doing a poor job because they lost games they shouldnt have without recognizing the factors of why is wrong.

The negas don't want to hear it. They think our walk-ons should be the starters from SCAR and Vandy.

We actually have more revenue, they just spend more of it on football. In respect to Bama.

Brendon-- I apologize that these posters have taken your thread to steal to turn into another idiotic rant about last year's season. Hope this season is great for you and the Red Raiders and go ahead and commit to the Big Orange!

Nope, if you would read well you would have seen my response was to a quote that Butch would win 10 games per year no problem in the acc.

My original response which has been taken way out of context is and still remains that I don't believe he would be guaranteed 10 wins per year if we were in the ACC.

In the ACC we would still have injuries and have to play division 1 level teams. If Butch can split the actual hard 4 game stretch of the SEC and lose to Vandy and USC why would he be expected to do any different against an ACC level D1 team ?

Our sunshine pumping fan base loves to beat up anybody that questions coaching ability. I still stand behind Butch and want him to be considered elite in the same category of Saban and Meyer ( the only 2 active coaches I consider elite) but until he shows me he can let his assistants coach and not be ultra conservative then he is an elite marketing coach that is a good game day coach.

Oh yeah, I manage people daily and have for many years. I love people that are cut from the same mold as me, but I'm also smart enough to recognize if someone has a logical idea better than mine. All I ask is to explain where we need to change and I'm more than happy to try something different.

No one in this discussion has given me data on how my opinion is wrong. Butch has a body of work that is easy to go back and watch.

You bring up Bama. On paper Saban beats Sweeny all day every day. He should not have lost the national championship game, but the difference was experience at QB and in game coaching.

Clemson scored the go ahead by using the same frigging play. Bama should have been prepared for a pick route to the reciever, but obviously they weren't.

Butch has to figure out how to do more with less. It may not be fair, but it's the hand he's dealt. Other teams in the SEC have made the investment to hire good coaches and put the needed money towards winning. The SEC is changing.

I think Vandy and Kentucky have good coaches that are doing more with less. Yeah, they still lose games they probably shouldn't but stoops took over the defense when he was giving up 100 points to slippery rock U and Vandy's coach realized he was a defensive minded coach and that he needed to let his offensive staff do what they do best. I go back to the fact that we made Vandy's QB look like Joe Montana.

Blind pumpers don't want to hear it....their were problems starting with appy st and were very lucky to win.....with 1st stringers.

Actually most the guys that played against SC and vandy were Butchs recruits and several older guys who either not talented enough or problem with coaching development. It was also a bad time to be firing Lawson last spring.

This is what I'm saying. If Butch and lawson don't agree, fine. But hire somebody that is capable. Don't promote Serzsen (however you spell it) just because he nods his head to every idea you spew. That many injuries is obviously more than just chance. We had a conditioning issue. Fire lawson but hire someone thst makes you better.

Hopefully, Rock can remedy this conditioning issue.

Did I strike a nerve? All I was referring to is that there were reasons behind our issues last season and a lot of people don't want to hear it. Conversely, we did have a fair share our luck as well. Strength and conditioning was the number one flaw. Second was lack of player development.

This is a good post. I will say, though, that there are times to be conservative. Butch has been too ultra-conservative, with a couple of exceptions. In his first or second year, he ran a fake punt against Georgia. I think that is the game we lost in OT. But, he is evolving, I believe, and I think we will see improvement in multiple areas on game day this year.

There was a really strong try for the proper use of "there" here but you failed. So back to the FF you go

Butch had no choice but to part ways with Lawson, we had experienced multiple injuries with some of Dave's "routines" and he had been told to change. The final straw was Lawson accusing one of our players of being a part of female anatomy, when in fact he had injured himself to the point he needed surgery.

The mistake Butch made was probably over-correcting to the point of hurting the S&C program effectiveness, and not getting a capable director to replace Lawson when he replaced him.
