I don't think Tennessee has real good 4-3 talent. DEs aren't quick enough for 4-3 DEs, DTs are mostly NTs (Kmac and Tuttle are NTs), Tennessee has 3 MLBer (Kirkland, Bituli and ignot) and Only 1 can play in 4-3 but 2 can play in 3-4. Short fall is OLb. Tennessee has no real difference makers as OLb.
I think the move to 3-4 would be easier than most recall under Dooley and the worst DC we'd seen until Shoop. Surely Pruitt is far better teacher than Sinseri.
Great post.
I made the same comparison a year ago. Darrell Taylor is a Brian Orakpo clone. He's made for the 3-4 as an OLB.
I think he'll flourish under Pruitt.

Seen it mostly the same way. Cept I see Tuttle as a 3-4 DE. It's almost like Butch,Jancek and Shoop recruited ideal 3-4 components and shoved them into a weak 4-2-5. I think Taylor would kill it as an OLB...same with Matt Butler. A healthy year as an ILB could really benefit Kirkland in the draft imo.
He wanted to play DE. Bulked up unnaturally to help with depth. Now he can shed and beast out at OLB.
Thats not how it happened at all. He came in around 260-270 because it was pretty natural weight for him (thats before a college S&C program), said he was willing to and could play anywhere on the DL, and played pretty much exclusively at DE this year.
A lot of people saw him as a 3 technique DT a year or two down the road. Hell be a 3-4 DE this year. They might stand him up in some pass rushing situations from time to time, but he doesnt really fit the mold of the OLBs weve seen in Pruitts systems at UGA or Bama.
Plus, were gonna need him with his hand in the dirt in 2019. Losing a lot of guys on the DL after 2018 and our 2016 and 2017 DL classes didnt bring in much depth to replace a lot of those guys.
The big concern will be depth. I dont doubt that weve got 11 guys we can put on the field to run a 3-4. But idk if well be 2 or 3 guys deep at some positions like OLB or DE with guys who can play and be effective in a 4-3.I don't think Tennessee has real good 4-3 talent. For a lot of guys who were recruited for the 4-3 specifically, it will be interesting to see what happens. Im not really sure how exactly guys like Picou, Bennett, Thaxton, Page, Reid, or even Sapp fit in to a 3-4.
Will would be my guess.
Edit: Taylor at Jack, Bituli and Kirkland at Sam and Mike
I could see Reid bulking up and playing inside. Thaxton could be an OLB as an edge rusher. Picou and Bennett could both play end in 3-4 as they are like quick DT's. Page and Sapp are better 4-3 LB's.
