'18 TN LB Cam Jones

the skinny: Jones has visited tennessee twice this spring, and the 3-star linebacker continues to near a decision. The st. Benedict product tripped to missouri over the weekend and released a top 5 of ut, mizzou, memphis, indiana and mississippi state on monday. This is really a three-team race, though, and the vols remain well-positioned for the former indiana commit, whose brother is former ut defensive tackle leron harris and his high school coach is former ut defensive end marlon walls.

With 15 commits entering July, spots are really at a premium. It’s becoming more and more likely that UT will sign just one linebacker in the 2018 class. Cam Jones remains the top target, and coming off his trip to Mizzou, Tennessee should still be considered the favorite. Still, it’s a race for the spot, with someone like Matthew Flint hoping to make a decision by late summer as well.

We must really really like our LB class last year. I'm good with only taking one, considering the group they are recruiting. Use the 2nd spot for someone else, like an OL or DL.

I'm far from an expert, but it seemed to me that JRM's anticipation and ability to quickly diagnose plays was elite. I don't think we've had another LB with that ability recently.

Oh yeah. That's what separates him from the typical LB. couple that with his speed and safety instincts and you have a guy who will make a few pro bowls if he can stay healthy.

I thought DKjr showed that ability as a freshman. Last year he was injured early in the BoB, and didn't return until the SC game and really was never 100% on his ankle until the MCB against Nebraska, so never had a chance to show continued improvement. I think we will see this season what we would have seen last season, which is his continued development, both physically and mentally. I expect him to command the defense.

"In a related note, Carvin’s good friend Cam Jones continues to slow things down. Some struggle to understand the effect that Missouri has left on him, but the Tigers are very much in this race. Tennessee is likely to just take one linebacker in this class unless the staff reworks the numbers, so that puts Matthew Flint and Jones in a race to see which one pulls the triggers first at this point. LOL Can't believe he is seriously considering Mizzou. That is just odd. They are quickly heading in the direction of becoming the worst program in the SEC.

i agree. couldnt believe that. They are a disaster of an institution right now. And Marlon Walls is one of his coaches? Marlon bleeds orange so its kinda shocking its not already a done deal. I do like Matthew Flint also.
