'18 TN OL Jerome Carvin (UT signee)

Heck I remember when there was nothing but cow pasture and cotton fieldso were The columns and Walmart north is. Also remember when there was just a dump and junkyard were Big lots is behind the Mall. I remember we hen they built Sears and then built the mall around it

I grew up in Jackson and remember when Sears was built. Prior to that yiu had to order from their catalog abd pick it up downtown at their outlet. But there was an old Chat 'n Chew type restaurant at the top of hill where Sears was built that was a hangout for teenagers. And they used to shut down the 45 Hwy/Highland from the top of that hill all the way to Highkand Park (Hicksville back then) for the soapbox derby. In the late 60' Post Magazine said it was the best town of its size category in the nation. A long time ago. I haven't spent any time in Jackson in over 30 years so I can't comment on what it's like now.

It has its good and its bad points. Pringles park is nice and a cheap place to take the kids or a date and have a good time. There's a few decent restaurants which aren't chains like Picasso and Coyote Blues. For a smaller town it has access to some good doctors as well. The bad is it's one of the more violent cities in Tennessee per capital, the public school system is irredeemably horrible, property values are pretty volatile as well, good areas can change to bad areas quickly. So I like to go to Jackson to get out occasionally and I work there but I wouldn't want to live there and I surely wouldn't want my kids in public schools there. Some of the comments about it being a craphole are overplayed though. Go to Lumberton, NC, Clarksdale, MS, etc then get back to me about S-tier cities because then you've been in some.

Jackson produced Al Wilson. thanks Jackson.
Any you ole timers from Jackson remember Walt Bond from Denmark, Tn. Played baseball for Houston Colt45s. Died age 29 of leukemia. Stood 6'7" and went to Lane college.
(Denmark is a tiny community outside of Jackson).

You are right about the school system but since they basically just ran that idiot out that was Superintendent they are trying to put it back to the way it was. The Neighborhood I grew up in off Christmasville Rd looks like a Crack neighborhood now but they are starting to clean it back up. I think the City is doing the smart thing by developing the bad elements out but it is driving up property prices which is a good and bad thing in and of itself. Interesting that it wasn't till 85 or 86 tii they built the exit at 86 before that you had to turn on what's now Ridgecrest ext. To get back to town. I used to live in Cotton Ridge Sub.when tey built Pringle's Park and we would sit in our front yard and watch the fireworks almost every night during the Summer

That's bad. Tennessee has one of the highest violent crime rates per capita in the country.

I remember going to Service Merchandise as a kid. I thought it was so weird that you had to write down a number of the thing you wanted to buy. Then you went to the counter and it would come down a conveyor belt.

I also had my first plate of nachos at Taco John's it was probably around 1982. Been hooked on nachos ever since.

WOW, I think I remember a Rivergate Service Merchandise outside of Goodlettsville. The conveyor belt delivery.

That's a long walk down memory lane. My early teenage years. First nachos - Thanks!

Hey, anyone remember the Cabana Theatre? I believe that shopping center was called Hamilton Hills. But your party got its own private cabana to watch the movie. And you could order food delivered to your cabana. It was awesome, but oeople naturally abused it by smoking dope and having sex in the cabanas...

...and yes, I was guilty of doing both.

Commitment watch on for Jerome Carvin?

Ever since 4-star outside linebacker Jordan Davis committed to Alabama in December, Jerome Carvin has heard a familiar message from his “blood brother” almost every single day: When are you going to join me in Tuscaloosa?

Carvin, a 3-star offensive lineman from Cordova (Tenn.) High School, is one of the Crimson Tide’s top guard targets in the Class of 2018. He’ll visit Tuscaloosa again this weekend as one of many elite recruits in attendance for the Champions Cookout on Friday. Carvin will make the trip with Davis, and the pair plan to spend the entire weekend in Tuscaloosa.

With this being his sixth trip to Alabama, Carvin said he’s already seen everything he’s wanted to. So, is a commitment from Carvin to be expected this weekend? If so, he’s not giving up any hints.

“If everything goes well, it’s possible, but I’m not sure right now,” Carvin said. “I’m not planning on committing this weekend, but we’ll see.”

The reason why there’s some hesitancy on Carvin’s end is because of the in-state school. Tennessee’s coaching staff is in touch with Carvin every day. His best relationship with any coaching staff is with Tennessee. To show just how often he’s talking with the Vols, read the following quote from Carvin.

“I talk to Coach Butch Jones a lot,” Carvin said. “He’s on vacation right now, so I haven’t talked to him in a few days.”

Carvin knows when Tennessee’s coach is on vacation. He’s obviously a massive priority to the Volunteers, but he is also a priority to the Crimson Tide.

Carvin, who’s rated as the nation’s No. 29 tackle but is being recruited by Alabama as a guard, says he hears from Tide offensive line coach Brent Key every other day. He also talks with tight ends coach Joe Pannunzio often as he’s Carvin’s primary recruiter.

But his main relationship is with Key.

“He really just wants to develop me into one of the next great Alabama offensive linemen that they send off to the league,” Carvin said of Key’s message to him. “I definitely believe him. I truly believe that Alabama is the best team in the nation. It’s really just an honor to be recruited by them.”

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound prospect said Michigan and Mississippi State are also in the mix for him but “Alabama and Tennessee are really pushing me.” He broke down why he’d choose both of those schools if he were to commit today.

On Alabama: “The reason would be because of the dominance Alabama has every year. Just to be able to play for Coach Saban would be an honor. I feel he’s the greatest college football coach of all time — well, definitely one of them. I know if I committed to them, I’d be playing for a national championship almost every year.”

On Tennessee: “My relationship with the coaches is great. I’m close with Coach Jones and [offensive line] Coach [Walt] Wells. I know their commits really well. Cade Mays and Adrian Martinez are really on me hard.

Carvin, who would like to be an athletic director in the future, knows that Tennessee’s AD may have to make a tough decision at the end of the season this year if things don’t go well for the Volunteers.

Butch Jones’ seat is warm in Knoxville, but Carvin thinks his job is safe.

“I have definitely thought about it a few times, but I think Coach Jones is going to be there for a long time,” Carvin said. “I think Tennessee is going to have a great year this year. I’m not really worried about them.”

I like Hendersonville too. It's really grown over the last 15 years.

not sure what the read is here, even if he does commit to Alabama this weekend I would think it would go all the way to signing day between us and bama

My interpretation of that is " He gone"

Well u need to work on your reading comprehension because if "he gone", Carvin wouldn't have went on and on about UT and Butch. Plus, Carvin would have said a commitment was coming soon. But, I'm sure u can go to the James Mitchell thread and say that and u may be right, since u enjoy UT missing out on players so much

I disagree.
He used the third person describing Tennessee when saying "Tennessee will be fine" even while raving about butch. He also spoke way to affectionately and even left committal to bama on the table.

He gone!
