In-state offensive lineman Jerome Carvin remains the biggest target left on the board. Carvin was assured of a spot anyways, but the rash of preseason injuries to the offensive line only confirmed the staff’s decision to aggressively add a fourth OL to the class. Carvin remains in steady contact with Tennessee’s coaches. Most notably, it may be down to a two-team race for the Memphis offensive lineman.
While Tide DL commit Jordan Davis has certainly been in Carvin’s ear about the fellow Memphis native joining him in Tuscaloosa, following Alabama’s recent commitment of California offensive lineman Jarrett Bell, it appears Carvin may no longer have a spot with the Crimson Tide. Alabama has other priority OL targets still on the board, leaving UT and Mississippi State as the two schools truly still in the race. That’s good news for Tennessee. In talking to some people on Thursday night, there is a belief that Carvin does something in the next couple of weeks and may not wait until the early fall, with the Vols in solid shape.
