'18 TN OT Max Wray

When you're in year 1, you can come up with a whole lot more excuses. When you're in year 4, not so much.

I just hope Wells is as much of an upgrade from a coaching standpoint as he seems to be in recruiting. If so, we might actually come out and knock somebody off the line of scrimmage. If we turn it around and UGA continues to struggle, I could see us getting back in it for this guy. Especially after reading how high little bro seems to be on Wells.

If we win 8 games this season with this team Butch should be coach of the year we blew our chance at the East in the last 2 years we will have to wait another year or 2 before we can compete for the East.:thud:

9-3 loses to Georgia, LSU, and someone else

1. It's Jack Jones or Marcus Tatum

2. Good thing all those guys you are talking about needing peanut butter are going to be juniors now and will be caught up with Georgias freshman class.

Our OL will be one of the best position groups on the field and the best OL we have had since '13

Yes it's Marcus Tatum, and he's a SO. He also looks like a TE playing OT, and if he sees the field for more than mop up duty come this Fall then you better be finding Butch a new job.

Please tell me you aren't comparing Ga's situation when Kirby took over with Tennessee's situation when Butch took over. Even the worst Butch hater can't make that case.

Oh and we have beaten them 2 straight. So there's that.

I compared Butch's 2014 OL recruiting class to UGA's 2017 OL class. 1st "real" class for both coaches. You can argue for Butch all you want, but he's not a good coach and he didn't recruit OL very well early on. It is because of this that Tatum had to play against Bama weighing 270 as a Fr. Your 2-deep can't have a 270 pound freshman OT in year 4. There's no excuse for it. Keep blaming Dooley though.

So you are making that comparison. So much for credibility.

No he should be fired if they only win 8 games this year. Who are your 5 losses to. Bammer and LSU come to mind as two. Then it gets interesting. I guess one could feel comfortable saying we lose to the Gators away and Georgia at home. That leaves either an opening season loss to Ga Tech or perhaps losing to USCe at home? If that happens, UT is 2-5 and perhaps 0-4 in the SEC still 10 days before Halloween. We should be finishing up with an interim coach for our last five games under that scenario.

Sorry that I take the orange shades off and look at where we are year 5. You keep the excuse train coming. Saw same thing on this board when Dooley was around. Same excuses. Ya, Butch had it rough bc Dooley didn't recruit OL in 2012. 2016, 4 years later, we still had huge OL issues. When's the excuses gonna stop.

Just curious here.. Am I the only one who can't ignore this guy? I typically try to add Georgia trolls to the ignore list pretty quickly but when I click on his profile the option to ignore does not show up.

Well let's not act like he was the first tackle of the bench. We had injuries not only to all the tackles in front of him, but also to some of our other inside guys that could've possibly slide outside.

Yea, and did you see their OL recruiting class this year? You win with DL, OL, and QB play. UGA will have all three very soon. Kirby recruited about 6 4 star OL, 3 of which are 6'6" and 300 pounds+ out of high school. Go look at our recruiting of OL in Butch's first years and compare it to UGA's 2017 class. UGA isn't taking Ray Raulerson at 275 out of high school or Marcus* Tatum at 260. UGA is taking big dudes who don't need 3 years of peanut butter and weight training to compete. That's the recipe it takes to win week in and week out in the SEC. For every Smith we get, we take 2 OL projects as well. On top of that, Dobbs, Hurd, and Kamara aren't here any longer to mask our OL issues. In turn, Butch and company are going to have to coach our boys up big time, otherwise, we are looking at a 7-5 or 8-4 record next year at best.

The Ga starters this year were just as highly rated coming out of HS as this bunch. Georgia's last 5 classes as a whole were more highly rated than Ut's. Talent has never been a problem at Georgia.

We lost a lot at the skill positions, but the OL play could and should be better next year.

1, not a UGA troll. 2, I misspelled one of our players names and even admitted to the mistake. I know you guys are perfect. Anyone on this board gets ignored or shut down the minute UT gets put in a negative light. You guys must be millennials and think everyone deserves a trophy. People can disagree, it's ok. It's cool that you think our OL recruiting and development is in good hands. I don't. End of story.

It's one thing to say you don't agree. It's another to come into a place you don't frequent and start acting like an a**hole and expect everyone to be OK with it.

Kirby Smart won 7 games with the 3rd most talented team in the SEC and top ten national talent. It was a reload year and he sucked.

Thing is, Tatum was in our 2-deep. Hall, Kendrick, Richmond, Tatum, and Thomas is all we had. Thomas isn't a OT. We didn't have any other real options at OT. That is my whole point. Year 4, that's bad depth. Instead, people on here rather use the Dooley excuse or bash people because they typed a dudes name wrong.

I don't think Kirby Smart is a good coach. That's my whole issue here. The discussion wasn't meant to be abt UGA but rather their recruiting ideology in terms of OL. I think we need more big guys at OL. They don't even have to be 5 star talent. Hall wasn't and he's our best OT when healthy. However, look how big Hall was when he came here. When he got thrown in the game against UGA his FR year, he held his own. Tatum got ran over when he got thrown in the game, but you can't expect a dude that weighs 275 to block Bama's DL, etc.

You couldn't expect anyone to block their DL this year.

Our running game and offense has been some of the worse ever the last two years.

UGA's OL recruiting the last five years isn't going to wow anyone. Smart just made it a priory this year, and he landed the best OL class they have had in last 6-7 years. I just wish Butch had made OL a bigger priority in 2014. We really couldn't afford to swing and miss on guys like we did.

Dobbs, Hurd, and Kamara masked our OL issues. I don't think people realize how good those three guys are. Our OL has to take a huge step forward next Fall or we are in trouble. We also need some better depth. Hopefully Smith can help right away.

Those guys were good but you can't just run the ball like that with bad blocking. We had no one healthy on the line against bama but the OL last year did well and will be fine this year and going forward. Most programs arrive on the OL when the starters have been in the program three plus years. I think Tatum Redshirts this year like they wanted him to last year.

I think as a whole, our OL isn't/hasn't been developed properly, mainly due to Mahoney sucking massively. I think it'll either get changed and fixed due to the coaching changes this offseason, or we will struggle greatly because Dobbs and Kamara are no longer there to bail us out. We have Kelly at RB and then no proven #2 RB. So, our OL will carry us next year, or they will be the biggest reason Butch isn't here after next season. I hope I'm wrong because I love Butch, and I hope Wells is allowed freedom to coach the OL.

The senior class that just graduated was assembled in six weeks. There was no redshirt senior class. Georgia, who you contend is eating our lunch, has lost two in a row to us. We are in good shape with some outstanding line recruits. Perhaps the top online man in the nation wants to be a Vol.

I get that you want to be seen as a realist who just wants to win worse that anyone else. I've seen it for years. If GA is your model of success, maybe you are the delusional one. Kirby pretty much sucked this past season.

"When's the excuses going to stop? " I don't know, but the whining seems to go on forever. It's to the point of being simply childish, like a big continuous tantrum.
