'18 TN OT Max Wray

Georgia sucks and their freshman linemen will suck if they have to play. I don't care if they're 7 foot tall and 350 lbs. They're freshman. We can gripe about our line struggles over the years but what's Georgia's excuse? Being year one doesn't explain why they sucked the last two years with all that talent.

It is the exception when a freshman can come in and play day one in the SEC. Not only about weight but strength as well. That first year to RS OL is so important so they can spend time LIFTING all season instead of perhaps preparing in case needed in a game. APPy had a very good OL and DL that was very seasoned and we had a C who should not have been playing that night so you could say that is on the coaches. Regardless, we are finally at a point after the big misses on OL during Dooley that we can start RS guys and having guys with three years plus in the program starting and good experience backups as well which will allow all these guys to come in and LIFT and get SEC ready during their first year. It is the first time in a LONG time going back even past Dooley that we have done this. Good to be able to have high upside guys who don't have to play coming in instead of just big mollies who don't have technique down nor strength to play SEC level.

Leave it alone man. People rather throw insults and look cool than face reality. Never once said we should model how UGA does everything, but their OL recruiting under Smart is 100X better than ours at the current moment. People make excuses for everything. Yea, we had injuries, but if you have to play a FR on the OL do you want a 270 pound OT who's a 3-4 year project or a 315 pound OT who has the strength to hold his own right away?

We recruit Smith and then add 2 other 3-4 year projects when our depth is already bad. We got fans who celebrate our accomplishments like we did something last year, even when we had the best roster in a decade and went 8-4. We barley beat App State because our OL couldn't even move their DL.

Georgia started a graduate transfer from Rhode Island on a team that has signed highly rated high schoolers quite consistently. Their first season was an abortion.

The first paragraph is my issue. All of you keep using Dooley as an excuse.

That's what you took away from my post????

I pointed out there were a myriad of reasons we're in the situation we're in with the Oline, ONE of which was when CBJ took over was the limited numbers Dooley left behind. Are you disputing this? We all agree with you that that alone doesn't buy CBJ a pass 4-5 years later.

Do you think CBJ inherited a solid 5 year spread of Oline talent? We all agree that wasn't the case.

Do you deny that the Oline roster looks pretty good right now?

Do you deny that the Oline has suffered through an unusually large number of injuries the past few years?

Do you deny that a couple of universally well regarded recruits didn't pan out for one reason or another?

Do you agree that these are all reasons (not excuses) that contributed to the poor Oline play the past few seasons?

Blah blah blah! Rinse, repeat. Blah blah blah!

Bottom line is we took a few high ceiling, long term developmental OL that needed to redshirt and add strength. Then injuries ravaged our OL and we were forced to throw them into the fire too early.

I get what you are saying. I understand where we were depth wise, what I'm saying is, that doesn't matter.

I understand. That's where we disagree. I see rebuilding as a complex process and the differences in recruiting to a good team vs a train wreck matter a lot. We were broken in a lot of places and the injury problem hasn't helped our depth and our ability to grow. But we are growing. That's what I look for.

Dobbs, Hurd, and Kamara masked our OL issues. I don't think people realize how good those three guys are. Our OL has to take a huge step forward next Fall or we are in trouble. We also need some better depth. Hopefully Smith can help right away.

And old poor old Georgia had was Nick Chubb and Sony Michel who were rated #1 and #2 in America as HS players. And oh by the was he had the # 1 rated QB in America in the 15 class. Geesh!

Kirby Smart won 7 games with the 3rd most talented team in the SEC and top ten national talent. It was a reload year and he sucked.

Not aure how you figure they were so talented outside of rb the had zero playmakers on offense. They started an OL that had very bad talent on it, and probably was worse than our OL. On defense their strengths were DL and the rest was BAD. So explain to me where the talent was at UGA. To me winning 7 gms was a big feat for Smart, and for the record I honestly do not think Smart will succeed there. The thing is he'll probably continue to recruit well because he's the new hot thing on the block.

Rbs are only as good as the OL. The qb was a gamble and not a day 1 starter, but showed tremendous upside and arm talent. UT was 10x as loaded as UGA. I hv to say talentwise UGA was bottom half of the SEC

Those are national recruiting ranks. They were not only top tier SEC but top tier nationally. Outside of Bama and LSU they had more 4-5 star talent by a good margin over us. Maybe Pittman should coach up those 4 and 5 star OL. They were stacked with talent at every position.

Georgia gets no pass for talent.

13- 1 4* OC
14- 3 4* 2 OT and 1 G
15- 1 4* OT
16- 1 4* OT

In 4 years, UGA recruited 6 4* OL. All that talent you see is on defense. This argument was never about UGA. I used them as an example because Smart in 1 year obtained 1 5* OT, 3 4* OT, and 1 4* G. He nearly recruited as many 4-5 star players in 1 year that UGA did the last 4 years. That's how you rebuild your OL. UGA over the last 4 years recruited OL about as good as we did, just a little better early on because Dooley sucked. Either way, if any of those guys don't pan out, which almost always happens, then you have quality depth issues until some of your lower ranked prospects develop. In all, if you strike out on your limited highly ranked players than your coaching and developing has to make up for it. Simple put, our coaching and development hasn't made up for it. Our OL can't consistently win one on one matchups. Don't believe me, go watch the OL again in games.

So go cheer for UGA. Quit clogging up this kids recruiting thread with your UGA love. Mo is gone. WW is the new sheriff in town. Let him work and quit your whining about the past.

According to 247 which you have sourced, they are in the top10 talent-wise in the entire country. Stop listening to their spin on "no talent" because that is never the case.

Someone bought the smarts it's not my coaching it's the talent I inherited pitch. Not buying that. Is it as talented as it could have been with the talent in that state... No but to claim bottom half talent is a bit much. Talent was there. Buy in from team was not. Richt wins 8-9 maybe even 10 with that same squad. Richts guys didn't trust smart. Unfortuanately smart will have to be the worst coach ever to fail if he continues to recruit like he is
