Ive always been really high on Tennessee. I love it. Its my home-state school, and I really take pride in that, said Schoenwald, whos expected to be one of the top prospects from the state of Tennessee in the 2018 class" -247

(Tennessees coaches) kind of responded and said, we really think that you have the ability to play tight end at our level at tennessee. But, then again, after your showing at the arsenal (camp), we think that you could also play quarterback here. I think its going to be a really fun couple of years, building a relationship with all the guys over there and myself.
I felt really comfortable (at tight end). Obviously, it was my first time, so I guess you could say I was a little bit rusty or whatever you want to call it. But it was awesome, and Im sure, with further coaching, I can expand my game there a little bit.
Schoenwald said the blocking part of it was the most challenging aspect of playing tight end, because thats all completely new to me.
I think Im athletic (enough) to play the position, he said. I think Ive got the hands to do it, as well, and the physicality. I think Ive just got to learn the actual position of tight end, blocking with the linemen when youre down there in the trenches.
I don't think Gavin is being recruited as a QB at all at this point by UT. He has the size but so far hasn't been able to beat out Jeremiah Oatsvall for the starting QB position at BA and won't this year. I'll be interested to see whether he shows improvement this year. Oatsvall is a baller but lacks the size big schools are looking for which is unfortunate. If Gavin decides that QB is the route for him I think Vandy may be the only SEC school where that might be an option. Having said that he has two more seasons to develop as a QB but won't have the chance to start until his senior season barring an injury to J.O. Tough spot for him and I think it's why he's starting to consider TE. Just my opinion of course.
It sounds like he's totally open to the idea of playing TE.
Personally, I hope so. He's a great athlete. I haven't seen de1conley around much (of course I haven't been able to read as much lately so I may have missed him) but I'm 99% sure that Gavin and BA's third string QB, Conner Woodlee have worked with Buck so maybe if he drops in he'll have an opinion. I'm just a regular guy who watches football and definitely can't project talent like the guys who do it for a living.
The runner-up Eagles, led by tournament MVP Camron Johnson, were without standout quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall on Wednesday, but Brentwood Academy hardly missed a beat behind backup Gavin Schoenwald.
He did great, Eagles coach Cody White said of Schoenwald, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound rising junior. We always have said that if he played at any other school in the state that hed be the starter. Thats a nice thing to have.
