'18 TN QB/WR Alontae Taylor (UT commit 6/18/16)

And I'm not saying that I think AT is one of these, but his attitude sure seems familiar. I'm still on the fence.

To me, his attitude seems to me to be one that knows how the recruiting process goes. He has probably seen a good number of teammates or friends be offered scholarships by schools, only to see them yanked 2 or 3 weeks before signing day. Or maybe he has seen teammates commit and attend a school, only to see his position coach leave and his playing time or opportunity impacted?

I have no idea whether either of these scenarios is true. But, the fact that the coaches continue to recruit him hard and he continues to imply that he is still interested in us seems to tell me that he is merely letting our coaches and other coaches know that he will listen and visit. Since our coaches are still involved, I would assume they are ok with this.

Which of these is not like the other? Is it against the NCAA to send recruits a dictionary to look up what committed actually means?

“I am still 110% committed to Tennessee," Taylor answered. "My birthday is December 3rd and I talked to my parents about it so my plan is to either stay committed to Tennessee and leave it at that and close down my recruitment or flip to Georgia or LSU, whichever one is my other option, and commit to them and leave it at that.”-Rivals

Just out of curiosity. How do you feel that he's protecting himself from a pulled scholly or a position coach leaving by saying he's 110% committed and then setting a possible flip date in the next sentence?

I think a kid of his talent would be fine regardless. However, some kids might want to keep other schools on the line in case they lose their spot at one school and need to jump on another offer late. I am just guessing and don't think AT needs to worry about that. Plenty of schools would drop a kid to get him on board. He is a very talented young man and maybe he is just a little nervous about such a huge decision in his life. That is all JMO though.

Glitch had a good explanation prior to this, but Taylor knows how big time recruiting works now. He has already seen his possible position coach change and the concept of having his spot recruited over or simply opened up, is also not far from his mind.

There isn't much doubt in my mind that he wants to go to Tennessee. But, he is not going to shut it down and limit his options, if Tennessee decides It has better options.

I care. Let him have his drama. Vols need talent. It would be a shame to lose him
He earned it IMO. I think the drama thing is blown up by our unstable fan base.

People will bring up P Dub but I believe he transferred bc of issues was Azzani (which affected other WRs as well) and the emergence of Jennings. Not ever recruit who flirts during their recruitment turns out to be a cancer.

Byrd also doesn't seem like the coach to give favoritism since he also played college ball.

And all of that is fine when discussed behind closed doors with the staff. The tweet from last night makes him look ridiculous. I'm not trying to hate on the kid, but someone should take his Twitter from him.

Position coaches leave all the time, and there is no freaking way in hell this particular kid thinks his spot is going anywhere. He is just a immature kid playing games because he believes/knows he is a big deal. That is intoxicating for people with certain personality types. It is the last time for a long time he will have this kind of power. As much as I don't like it...I get it.

When did Tyler start coaching the WR'S?

It would be interesting to see if there is a correlation between guys being flaky during the recruiting process and then becoming busts later on. Does drama during the recruiting process indicate a lack of maturity that leads to a higher wash out rate once guys get on campus?

I would say there is an arguement to be had i guess you would have to define "flaky" recruits though.

I think, yes. The question is "how long does it take them to mature?" Some will their first year, but others... Well... My wife is still waiting for me to mature

Already sick of this kid's drama.

It is aggravating isn't it? But he is, I think, 16 years old and being treated like a rock star. Some kids are still just kids, some are more mature about the seriousness of their decision. If he does sign with us, I hope he grows up some.

All I'll say is I'm 39, and I change my mind 3 or 4 times about what I even want to eat for dinner.

He's 18. He has a golden opportunity. This is a major, major, life defining decision. He has every right to listen to all that is out there in order to make the best decision for him.

As of right now, he's a Vol. And I'd love for it to end that way. But in no way would I fault him for going in another direction if its what he and his family thought was best for him. Nor would I think him being open throughout the process constitute being "dramatic."

That quote that was posted was dramatic as hell. To the point where it looks fake.

Just drop the "I'm 110% committed" crap then. That is horsecrap, and that is making a circus out of it. That is being dramatic. If he wants to go out of state, go out of state, but dont keep calling yourself committed. It's a joke.

I can agree with that. While I think it's his choice and right to go through the process as he pleases I think he should also respect the offer from UT- the team he claims to have loved.

I can agree with that. I think a lot of folks are just getting sick of me first attention whores, because we seemed to have been burned regularly lately by that sort of personality.

Honestly, that quote says a lot about his personality. We don't need guys on our team with one foot out the door. This guy appears to be a head case, not good for our locker room. We need talented, level headed, hard working, and dedicated football players on our team. He has the talent, but I'm not sure he checks the other boxes.

It's a bad quote for sure but not Ready to label him anything further than enjoying the attention right now. It does raise red flags to if his personality can handle adversity when he gets to a campus and has to fight for a spot. Could be one of those quick to transfer types if he doesn't get his way day 1
