'18 TN RB Master Teague

Thats all well and good but the jet sweep Coach Jake called took 29 seconds to develop and lost 8-9 yards.

I'm. Or saying the production of the play was good... I am just saying we can't do away with the play because of the versatility it gives us... that's all...

Other ways to suck in the safety other than that garbage is all I am saying.

Yup. Have to be a threat on that sweep to set up future plays, and except for an occasional run where pig would get a nice gain, it was mostly for little to no gain or a loss.

I understand your point... I just think it would be a bit different with JJ at the POA...

Do you think JJ has the quickness for sweeps?

I agree with having him in space but I think I would rather get it to him on a quick bubble screen. He showed some quick footwork and nice moves a few times last year and with how tough he is I feel like even if the defense is set up to cover it he can at least attack his way for positive yards.

No no no... that's not what I meant... I meant have him leading blocking on a sweep with Byrd running it..:

Second part.... introducing.... John Kelly....

First part... you have to have set up plays. Having a sweep play creates a lot of opportunities... what a lot of people do not realize is that, that touchdown he just threw was achieved by that sweep holding the safety because (he was the force defender) he had to honor the sweep that had been run a couple times out of that formation and....

Now that the safety is out of position horizontally because he couldn't be outflanked by the sweep player... aaaaannnnndddd touchdown...

I know. I have been a huge fan of JK from early on before he was playing as the second string last year. The dude will be good for us this year I have no doubts about that. Shifty, fast, hits the hole hard, and can be devastating in the passing game. All of that is why I said Darren Sproles as an NFL counterpart for JK.

Now a sweep pass play wouldn't be a bad idea... line up in a 2+2 set and run a sweep with callaway on the opposite end running a streak downfield... not a bad idea...

This. JJ isn't a sweeps guy. Get him the ball quick in open space to make a move on someone or out tough someone.

Jet sweeps should be for Byrd, Latrell, Callaway, Jacquez Jones this year.

Go back and reread the conversation... I think you are missing some pieces...

I just remember how long they took to develop and they were sooooo telegraphed.

Yeah, but once we got a QB who could run under center they became a lot harder to defend as well.

With Worley the defenses knew they only had to worry about the RB or the guy on the Jet Sweep keeping the ball to run. With Dobbs, it opened up more possibilities.

I agree he went to the well too much with it, but it was no worse than Debord's handoff, handoff, swing-pass, punt drive planning at times in 2015.

My complaining about Jake's sweeps is in no way endorsing Debord's give up drives.

Although I think jake ran it too much and with the wrong personnel at times, the jet sweep is a somewhat important part of our offense to keep the defense honest. Makes them have to take that extra second to think.

We would gash defenses running the ball in 2015, when Von came in motion and used him as a 3rd option on the read. Whoever got the ball went for big yardage every time...I just don't know why we stopped doing it after being so successful.

Tweeted today that he had a great visit with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Meaningful or not, was wearing a Vols orange shirt in the pics posted on the UGA campus.
