'18 TN TE Jacob Warren (UT Commit 5/24/17)

Three-star tight end Jacob Warren, a Tennessee legacy from Knoxville’s Farragut High School, said he currently isn’t planning to take any additional visits following his trips to UT and Oregon last month, and he admitted he’s getting close to making his college choice. Warren said he could make a decision by the end of this month or sometime in June, if everything goes according to plan, and he admitted he “kind of” knows “where I want to go and what I want.” He’s not publicly tipping his hand on which school that might be, but the Vols still appear to be the team to beat. He admitted they’re the team recruiting him hardest.

we got a couple in state TEs that are considering us. question is, how high are they on our list?

Jacob is probably at or near the top, he has a lot of upside, and is super athletic given his size, but it still raw in his technique. He's probably destined for a red shirt year but that's not too big of a deal.

I have and i think all chnges were major upgrades with the exception of the Hoke/Strip change. Srip was really good at coaching DL, but Hoke has that same reputation so time will tell. All these guys hv charisma and sem to have a much bigger knowledge of what they're doing, and seem to relate better to the kids. Time will tell though

Luckily we've still got Strip around in some capacity. For whatever that's worth.

anybody got access to the article on 247 on warren ?

jacob warren wrapped up a round of spring visits last month with a cross-country trip to oregon and another visit to nearby tennessee, his third in less than a month.

They might have been his final stops before he announces his college choice.

The three-star junior tight end from farragut high school in knoxville, tenn., said he believes he’s “done with visits” coming off his recent trips to tennessee and oregon, and he expects to be ready to decide on a college by “late may, early june.”

warren, who’s the son of former tennessee offensive lineman james warren, said during sunday’s nike the opening regional at mecklenburg county sportsplex that he doesn’t expect to visit any more schools in the coming weeks “unless something just comes up.”

his plan for now, he said, is simply to “let it all sink in” and decide whether he’s completely comfortable with the school he’s already leaning toward choosing.

“just trying to decipher where i really want to go and then just talk to some coaches during spring practice, and get through spring practice and then start worrying about it,” said warren, who’s ranked the nation’s no. 961 overall prospect and no. 36 tight end in the 247sports composite for the 2018 class.

“i kind of know where i want to go and what i want. Just kind of making sure, double-checking that that’s everything i want.”

the 6-foot-6, 211-pound warren said virginia tech, duke and indiana are among the colleges that recently have sent coaches to his school. But he said hometown school tennessee still is the school he’s talking with most frequently.

“i’m hearing from them pretty much every day, just talking and texting,” warren said. “(offensive line) coach (walt) wells and (offensive coordinator larry) scott will text me a lot.”

warren, who now holds scholarship offers from more than 15 schools, said he has been impressed by the “consistency” of tennessee’s contact with him since the vols gave him his first major-conference offer in december.

“(they are) just asking me how i’m doing and just the basic stuff, really,” he said.

After talking frequently with the vols’ coaches over the past several months, warren said he now makes mostly “small talk” during his conversations with them.

“just kind of making jokes and going back at each other,” he said, smiling. “coach wells, he’s goofy. It’s all fun, so it’s good.”

warren said he’s still high on tennessee for multiple reasons, including his family ties and geographic proximity to the vols, and he has been impressed by what he has seen during his several visits to tennessee’s campus.

“i mean, really, it’s just every time i go up there, it’s a family environment,” he said. “everybody’s happy to see me. Everybody likes talking to each other and hanging out and everything. It just seems like an environment that’s very productive and very positively oriented, i guess you could say. It’s just a nice play to be.

“and the offensive coordinator is the tight ends coach,” warren added, referring to scott, “so you’re going to get the ball.”

aside from tennessee, warren said vanderbilt is the school talking with him most frequently and is “definitely doing a good job” of recruiting him. The commodores hosted him in late march.

“i don’t really know how to explain it, but you can tell it’s more than just a football school,” he said of vanderbilt. “it’s more, like, academics, and the people there are good kids, smart kids. It’s just a different environment there.”

He also said that aside from Tennessee he is hearing from Vanderbilt the most. He sounds like a Vol to me. There is just too much going for us. He talks about how comfortable he is with the coaches, how close we are to home, his family ties to the program, and how he really likes the environment.

I thought this was the kid they said couldn't catch?

Apparently he showed out very well at NPA camp, DeCon posted earlier on this in the thread. Have a friend who has coached against him, biggest complaint from him is that he's really thin. But he's very tall, approaching 6'7 and has a great wingspan.

I do not know where he's final ranking will be, but this is a guy I see with tremendous upside. Has very good measureables and raw talent. A year in a college strength and conditioning program, plus receiving college coaching to work on his technique, could make Warren a vital playmaker.

Agreed, and the Volquest guys rave about him. Price referred to him as an athletic freak.

If he's rated low due to to being thin I like that. TE's aren't as physical as they used to be anyway

A couple years in the cafeteria and weight room should solve that problem
