There's so much talent instate in '18 class even if Vols sign 10 kids people are going to complain because they "lost" so and so to wherever. They won't be able to sign ALL the good instate talent this years, TN is turning out more and more power 5 talented kids each year. Can't sign them all...
But there's no excuse to not sign 8-12 kids from TN this year. Some really good talent leaning UT already. And I'll be suprised if Kellogg isn't a Vol.
Kellogg is a must get for this class. Literally, in the shadow of Neyland. Losing him, will be worse than losing Higgins, because it would be more or less, 2 years in a row, that we lost the best WR in the state, within in 20 miles from campus.
Yes, I know Camron Johnson may be the best WR in state, but he doesn't live 20 miles from campus. And, we better get Johnson, too. If we get both, that may be all the WRs, the Vols need in this recruiting class
My method? Of recruiting coast to coast for the best players for your system? Yeah it was good of course could have been better if we got the de from...wait for it...out of state.
Or Higgins/Stevens/Phillips etc. I don't think anyone disagrees about wanting the best players coast to coast, but the reality is, we aren't able to do that at a high level right now, so getting the best players in our state and even region is most important.
We will never agree on this im cool with that if you are.
Same for me I guess... I don't know why you don't understand why people want the instate talent. Having a lot of top talent in-state guys is a huge advantage. That's a fact. They are more likely to have interest in the home state school and usually commit earlier. Which in turn, lets you spend more time on those big "coast to coast " recruits you want. It's really that simple. They help each other... we want the same thing.

our best classes have always been nabbing the big local guys, and having them generate excitement by recruiting combines, and, All Star games.
Like when Peyton signed. Or Heath. Or Clausen. Or Jamal Lewis. Or Eric Berry. Or...
Honestly I can think of one class, maybe two, where in-state talent seemed like a catalyst. It's certainly not the norm.
Not disagreeing with your point of casting a wide net recruiting, but Bryson City, NC is 79.8 miles from Knoxville, TN so you might want to substitute in Haynesworth, Henry, or another top recruit to support your position.
I thought the context was more about in-state, so that's where I went. Jamal Lewis was, where, Stone Mountain? Probably as close as Franklin County. But I think that solidifies the point further... What exactly is local?
