Is the cussing worse than Yellowstone? I don't mind cussing but I get tired of cussing just to cuss. And don't appreciate Gee Dee.

It's like the all-time cussingest show, but it feels kinda natural to me. It matches the seedy, rugged wild west town of Deadwood.

I don't know much about the cussing habits of the wild West except for what I've seen in movies. Tombstone was pretty wild and they cussed but not evert other word.

I already downloaded season 1 so I'll check it our.

But the movie is like 3 years old, if the series was so good why haven't you watched the movie?

So I read once that in their research for Deadwood they found out they did swear a lot, but swear words at the time were "cotton-headed ninny muggins" and stuff like that, which would just induce laughter today, so the creators went with the modern-day version of the foul mouth to try to accurately depict how it was.

This is simply In My Opinion (IMO): I've been watching 1883 and Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount Plus. Good stories, but it seems like they are trying to fit as much explicit language into each episode. Normally, I am not too sensitive to that, but the way it's done in these two shows is not really needed.
Watched 2 episodes of 1883 & that was it for me; even Sam Elliot couldn't save the sub-par acting & dumb script. As for Mayor of Kingstown...after 5 minutes of superfluos F-bombs, I changed channels; so I'm DONE with that series.

Just watched an interview with Isabel May.

She was asked if Elsa was pregnant and she said if she told she'd get fired, but she would say that we find out pretty quick whether or not she is, "like the next episode".

Interesting to me how we find out.

I thought Yellowstone started out pretty uninteresting and I almost stopped watching after episode 2 of season 1. But it kept getting better. So far this seems like it's doing the same.

Accurately depict how it was by using non-contemporary language. Yeah, in some dimensions I'm sure that makes sense. Heck, just do it in Japanese with subtitles.

I mean, do you want it to be perfectly accurate and feel inauthentic or be technically inaccurate but feel authentic?

You know the buildings weren't all white in ancient Rome, but if they were pink and blue in the movies and TV, it'd throw you the hell off.

Your statement was "to accurately depict how it was." What does feelings have to do with that?

With regards to the depiction of buildings in Rome, how do you know it would throw me the hell off? You have no idea how much I know about ancient Roman architecture, the sources and colors of marble they used, etc. I really do not think anyone would be surprised to see the Romans were not black and white in their color schemes.

However, I am also put off with the language in movie scripts today. I grew up on a fairly large farm working side-by-side with the hired help and cursing was pretty much reserved for special occasions (busted fingers, piece of equipment breaking down badly, etc) and the few people I knew that talked like a modern day movie character were not respected much at all. They were really kind of a novelty.

You know, watch a movie like The Wild Bunch, one of my absolutely favorite Westerns. Sure, there is cursing, but nothing like what modern society has become. It was off-putting in Yellowstone, but season four was so bad, that given the discussion of the dialogue, I'll not bother with 1883.
