Haven't you heard? Helton doesn't even have a QB board. Dude doesn't know what he is dong.

Wait he has a former QB going in the first five picks of the draft? No, that can't be right...

I think this kid would light it up in Helton's offense. Definitely a down field passer. Plus, those rush yards look nice too tho.

Is it noteworthy to anyone but me that this kid and the Legrande kid from LA are dual threats? I just assumed we’d more actively pursue pro style.

Could it be Helton wants more of a QB like he had at WKU? Josh Johnson or something was his name?

Or is it just really too soon to tell?

I guess bringing Chryst in kinda shoots a hole in that theory.

I don't put much stock into them being listed as DT or PP. I think they've touched on that before. It doesn't mean much.

I think it's more of an individuals definition of DT. Often times 247 and Rivals will have QB's listed differently, one will say PS and the other DT.

I believe what Helton wants in a QB is a strong arm, down field passer who can also gain yards with his feet, he's mobile enough to extend plays, but is a passer first. Some might call that DT, others might say PS.

Sam Darnold was a dual threat with identical rivals rating and position ranking to LeGrande. And he ran a lot in his highlights. As long as they can throw a dual threat just gives more options. They won't limit themselves IMO.

Just as a disclaimer, Helton never had a DT QB at WKU. Brandon Doughty was there and is a stone footed as you get. Most pro style QB you can find. With that said, he had a great OL and OL coach there that protected him. Maybe we have a great OL coach but still need the bodies up front to protect a pro style guy.

The “dual threat” thing is overdone. The kid’s a legit passer...the wheels are a bonus. My impression of Helton’s offense has been that the former is vital and the latter a luxury. Darnold was never called on as a primary rusher as PART OF THE ATTACK. Legging out a first down after the play breaks down can be a beautiful thing tho.

From what I understand from hearing Helton speak before, his preference isn't between dual threat/prostyle. Can you run or not run.

He is looking to see if you are a thrower first. Can you win a game with your arm throwing 20-30 times in a game if we need it.

Then they look at the other stuff. If all things are equal they will take the thrower that can run but if not equal they will take a better thrower with less legs over a better runner with only ability to keep a defense honest with arm

Man, if we can get him on the yard for a visit, he could be our next Cali QB commit, aka Bray without the bottle tossing. :loco:
