I'm not a fan of this kid already. Look at his highlight tape. He just stares at his receivers. Doesn't look guys off or transition to other receivers. Already has his mind made up where he is going with the ball.

He's a junior in high school tho not starting for the Titans

I'm pretty sure when coaches evaluate, the most important things they look for are things that you can't coach like arm strength and athleticism and size among other things. Staring a receiver down as a high school junior would seem to be a very coachable problem.

I will agree with this.

Edit: But I will point to how long it has taken JG to progress in those aspects.

JG was coached by the running backs coach from Utah State. And he was only a freshman last year.

Correction JG was a Redshirt Freshman last year. Meaning it was his second year.

Edit: He was also coached by Mike Canales who was at North Texas for 5 years as a Offensive Coordinator / Quarterback Coach

Of being coached by the running backs coach from Utah State. And his first year playing in college.

Read my edit. Don't know where you are getting this getting coached by a RB coach from. Because before Canales was Mike Debord.... So....

that's the funny thing. virtually all of JG's issues are teachables. reading defenses, blitz recognition, pocket awareness, anticipation/timing/location of the ball.

physically, he has the tools. that's why it was frustrating to watch last year, and why so many are skeptical.

we'll see how this off season helps.

Debord was not a QB coach either.

You know, just give up on a junior in H.S. and a second year QB who is being coached by a real QB coach for the first time this year.

Yes he was.... He was specifically hired as an Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks coach.... You've made two false statements already..... Now if you are saying he just wasn't because technically he grew up coaching offensive lineman, then I agree with you.

I do agree however, that he will be getting coached this year by a real quarterback coach.

I also think JG did well this spring but still needs to work on speed of his release and decision making.

First with the Utah State RB coach comment and now this about Debord not being a quarterback coach.

He’s not saying their actual job titles at UT weren’t QB coaches.

He’s saying Canales wasn’t a real QB coach because he is now a RB coach at a school like Utah State and DeBord had never coached QBs in his life prior to coaching here.

Well that is true. I agree on all those statements then.

Thanks for the clarification, I should have read between the lines...

But that's kind of like saying Chris Weinke isn't a real RB coach because he was a QB in college/Pros and is now coaching RBs for us.

As long as Weinke produces at RB then he is a RB coach is he not?

Lot easier to coach Rb's than QB's bud

Elite 11 Finals: Day One Top 11 Performers

No. 2- Zach Calzada, Buford (Ga.) Lanier - Calzada is as a pure a thrower as you’ll see, at least in this environment. Mechanically, he’s very advanced, the ball flies out of his hand and he was able to spin the football consistently through a pretty decent head wind. His arm is very live and he could make all the throws, from the touch passes with great timing to the back shoulder throws as well.

Just because Butch hired you doesn’t make you one. Deboard was a pretty good OC but not a good QB coach. Dobbs is still a fundamental mess.
