Woodi is one of the most important in state players for us this year in terms of need. Desperately need to sign him.

Washington did an interview with Josh Ward on SEC Country's Tennessee podcast.

Some highlights...

On the recent visit and his relationships with the coaches, "I have a very close relationship with Coach Fair. He's been hitting me up the most. I don't really talk to Coach Pruitt that much until I go down to UT to visit. I talk to Coach Kelly a little bit, but Coach Fair, he hits me up about every week just to check on me. He wants me to come to a spring game or spring practice." Washington said he is planning to come back for a spring practice. Said Coach Fair is "an outstanding person."

Asked what else he needs to see from the coaches, he said he just wants to see how the team does the first year. He likes that he could play early. "When I get there...it'll be a high chance of me playing early." He talked about the fact that we don't have much experience coming back at DB and didn't really sign much at CB in the '18 class either.

He knows Alontae Taylor and talks to him a lot. They always hang out when Washington visits. Said Alontae doesn't really try to recruit him, just tells him to make the best decision for him and trust his gut. Washington and Adonis Otey are really close. Said they are like brothers.

The podcast is free. Interview starts around the 13 min mark.

Nike camp in Nashville today...Woodi Washington is a real competitor at DB. With others leaving or shying away from reps due to the weather, he routinely jumped to the front of the line and battled with some really good WRs.

* DB Woodi Washington plans to take spring OVs to Oklahoma, Ohio State and Arkansas, but the in-state Vols remain near the top of his favorite schools, with a potential decision set for late summer.

After impressing at the water-logged Nike Opening Regional in Nashville on Sunday, the local 2019 standout told VolQuest that he plans on taking a few spring official visits and hopes to come to a decision sometime before his senior season.

Ohio State, Oklahoma and Arkansas are slated for OVs from the 4-star corner, with in-state Tennessee a key factor in Washington’s recruitment, too.

“They want me a lot,” Washington said of the Vols.

“I’m a priority. They told me I can play early. I have that chance. That’d be great.”

Washington visited Notre Dame for the first time last weekend before returning to Nashville for the Nike camp. In a torrential downpour, the 5-foot-11, 178-pound defensive back showcased his competitiveness Sunday, regularly jumping to the front of the line in 1-on-1s to compete against an impressive collection of blue-chip receivers. Washington displayed his savvy footwork and athleticism, coming up with a couple PBUs during the drill.

“I felt like I did a great job today, considering (the weather). I couldn’t really feel the wet once I started to get going. It was cold but I just went out there,” he said.

“I feel like I got better competing with all those receivers from different states, different areas.”

Washington visited Tennessee with his family in early March and he’s developed a good relationship with new corner’s coach Terry Fair. Defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer also went by Washington’s school last week, making sure the prospect knows that UT is working hard to keep him in the Volunteer State.

“We have a great relationship,” Washington said of Fair.

“He calls or texts me just about everyday. He tries to get me down there every once in a while just to hang out and connect. They want me a lot.”

Seems like we have a pretty clear Top 3/4 right now among in-state targets. Washington, Mitchell, Patterson and Wilhoite.
