'19 TN CB Woodi Washington

“it was great meeting the new coaches. They’ve got some great coaches that came in,” said washington, who’s ranked the no. 159 overall prospect and no. 13 cornerback in the 247sports composite for the 2019 class. “(pruitt) said they would start recruiting me even harder, because he had to get everything situated (at first).”

“they’re all great guys,” washington said. “(pruitt is) kind of laid-back. He said, when he coaches, he’s intense, though.”“i’ve talked to coach fair a little bit. He came to my school and re-offered me, i think it was last week, maybe,” said washington, who claims offers from 18 schools, including alabama, florida, lsu, notre dame, ohio state, oregon, ole miss and texas a&m. “coach pruitt, he hit me up on twitter, (and) coach niedermeyer.

“coach pruitt, i just talked with him. He was like, depending on how fast i run, depending on the position i’ll play, i’ll either play safety, star or corner. And i talked with coach kelly about the schemes and things like that. “(pruitt) said when i get here, if i come here, that he’ll try to help me as much as he can,” washington added, referring to pruitt’s background as a defensive backs coach.

Washington said he believes the vols’ new coaches will “help them” become an even bigger factor in his recruitment, and their staff now is the thing that stands out most to him about tennessee’s program. “just the coaches themselves,” he said, "because they’ve won championships.”

he said he expects to return to tennessee in the coming months. “i think (pruitt) wants me back in the summer, for, i think, their camp,” washington said. “and then he said i can come any time during the spring.” while washington said he’s not sure which school he might visit next, he’s currently hoping to decide on a college by august. “probably before the season starts,” he said.

19 for '19: Vols early wish list

Washington is ranked by some as the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee and he plays a position of need in defensive back. Washington's long and rangy frame is something Pruitt likes in his defensive backs particularly his corners. Washington has plenty of suitors chasing him. This new staff has already had him to campus once which is a good start.

The four-star junior cornerback from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., said Tennessee is “high on my list” following his visit with the Vols on Sunday, which allowed him and his family to spend some one-on-one time Pruitt, cornerbacks coach Terry Fair and safeties coach Charles Kelly. “I had an opportunity (to visit) with the 7-on-7 tournament, and Coach Fair had hit me up and asked me to come,” said Washington.

“I talked to Coach Fair the most, since he invited me. Coach Pruitt, I talked to him when I first got there. … I talked to Coach Fair, and as I was walking out the door to go to the game lounge and play games with my little brother, I saw Coach Kelly walking in and I hung out with him for a little bit. Then, Coach Fair and my dad kind of talked.”

“I don’t really have a top school or anything, but they’ll be high on my list,” he said. “I might go back during the spring, for a spring practice or something. I’m not really sure yet.”

“They only have one DB commit this year and signed,” Washington said, “so next year the 2019 kids, if a lot of us go, we’ll probably play early just because some of the kids are juniors and seniors, and they’ll probably go to the draft and things like that.”

“They’re all great people. I just look forward to seeing them coach,” he said. “I need to see a lot — just how they coach in general. I don’t really care about, like, wins and losses. This will be their first season with the team, so you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Woodie enjoyed himself and will in all likelihood be back. Its still earky so not sure who stands out right now. My favorite things about him is that he's a very technical guy, and always open to coaching. His smile will light up a room and his lersonality is vibrant. At NPA our 19 and 20 classes are loaded and we're constantly growing.

“It was great,” Washington said. “I just sat down and talked to coach (Terry) Fair and played a few games. I talked to coach (Jeremy) Pruitt and I talked to coach (Charles) Kelly. Today was nice because it was just us talking and there were no distractions.”

“Getting to know coach Fair has been great. He has been getting to know my family because I had my whole family with me. He was telling me they want me a lot and want me to come down for the spring game. ”

Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State and several SEC schools share the pursuit of Washington. He didn't watch much film with the staff, but they did talk about his game and what the Vol staff likes about this Boro baller. "They like my technique and the way I move," Washington said. "My footwork is a lot better than a lot of other kids they watch film on."

"I know Alontae and he came up and saw me at the complex for a little bit," Washington said. "I was able to talk to him about how it is in college. He said it's a lot different than high school because you have to develop your body and get ready for the academic side. He had to write a six page paper before he got there."
