'19 TN CB Woodi Washington

Got you. It really isn't who you miss on it's who you get.

End Result just doesn't need to be burning bridges in the Boro

To me, it's a weak mindset of the Murfreesboro community and coaches to hold it against the Univ. of Tennessee to want the best players, and to want those best players to demonstrate their ability on campus at a camp against better competition than what Tennessee HS football has to offer. If kids are scared to compete for an offer at camp, what are they gonna do on the field vs Bama, UGA, or FL when it counts?

If that type of winner mentality and expectation of excellence from our staff burns bridges, then the Boro coaches can stay on their side and send their kids out west to Arkansas or Ole Mess. Coddling time is over with. Sack up and show out if you really want the offer. If not, we'll find someone else who isn't scared to compete.

Those truly wanting to get better and/or play in front of 102,455 will camp here. Those that feel like they're that good with no need for improvement or nothing to show, only tells me they may lack the work ethic to not only show the coaches their drive, but prove they are as good as advertised and are capable of being coached up.

CJP has already told him to play every play and don't take plays off. That tells me that there is some individualism going on between the hashes.

I don't disagree if camping wasnt time consuming, costly, and other schools weren't saying they want them without camping .

I am not for coddling and appreciate coaches being slow to act with committed offers. Just pointing out there is a fine line to toe

I think you should make a PowerPoint presentation outlining your concerns and forward it to the Vols coaching staff. They’re all new to recruiting so I’m sure they’d appreciate this.

Or we could just talk about all that is good with this new staff?

Maybe talk about Buiding a foundation one piece at at time.

Maybe we can all just talk about the good things like we do after each new coaching hire

Afraid we are Going to piss off rutherfod county pretty quickly. Maybe the county is overrated but I hate to see us doing it

What is the alternative? If our staff is not convinced that these kids can make us better and wants to evaluate them further, what else can they do except ask them to camp? I guess that they could just go ahead and take their commitment and hope they pan out later. They are doing their due diligence and if that upsets the kids and their coaches, so be it.

I understand your point, but what we should keep in mind is that, IF Pruitt turns this program around, then any "hurt feelings," regardless of legitimacy, will be moot. Winning cures everything.

On another note, if the coaching staff is basing its recruiting decisions on not hurting the feelings of a handful of in-state coaches, then that's malfeasance on the staff's part, and an incredible sense of entitlement on the part of the players/coaches.

Let’s assume you are a head coach at a powerful middle TN HS program.

Your job depends on winning games, which itself is dependent on good coaching and “recruiting” players. How do you draw a kid in to come and play for you? You sell it by team and individual achievements. Those individual achievements live and die on the number of D1 offers your program rakes in. If you have a kid that needs to camp to get an offer, you don’t get pissed off about it. You push that ish all day.

You are exactly correct. There is no real good alternative which is why I said this is a tough line to toe.

I have the feeling we may be treating all three of the Murfreesboro kids the same because it's hard to ask one to camp or the others not to. JMO

Dude whines because Butch offered and didn't honor, and whines because Pruitt wants to make sure he doesn't. Lawd.

LOL

It's true I hated butches method of filling up and culling kids late

It's simply not true I am whining here. I am simply pointing out there is a line being toed here. Hopefully we don't cross it

you realize that Pruitt doesn't care if he loses a DB he thinks may not be good enough, right? That's why he wants him to camp.

I think he wants this guy but feels like he has to treat him the same as Otley and Knox because of their relationship. JMO

I just don't see camping two hours down the road as costly or time-consuming. We aren't asking him to come from California. That could be a day trip for him and cost him half a tank of gas.

To me, it just screams either entitled or scared. And I get it, he probably sees Tennessee in a similar light as Kentucky, Vandy, or Arkansas given what he's seen from us in his lifetime. Even still, there's a new sheriff in town, and if he doesn't want to come down to impress the coaches, then he shouldn't be surprised at the absence of a legit offer. Pruitt has no investment in him at this point.

I don't know his circumstances and I don't know how many other camps he plans to go to but getting to Knoxville isn't as easy for some as it is for others. Especially if he already plans to make a number of trips this summer which I bet he is.

To change the subject slightly has there been a single player from Murfreesboro turn out to be a good player in the SEC?

I can't recall one to be honest other than Jennings

I know not every kid thinks this way, but I’d come to UT’s camp ASAP and say, “put Callaway in front of me right now.” Then after disgracing his family, I’d say, “🖕🏻 your offer, you missed out,” and make them beg me to come there. But, no one likes to truly compete anymore.

Im for making them camp if it translates to less recruiting busts. We also shouldn’t act like it can’t backfire. Washington seems like a no brainer take to me. VQ could possibly be interpreting the camp situation wrong.

I don't think they are. They've been dead on with everything since Pruitt and staff arrived. Pruitt isn't going to play politics and beg for kids like Butch did. If he genuinely believes they are big-time players he will take them, if he's not sold on them they will have to camp to prove themselves, that is especially true for in-state kids who are only a couple of hours or less away from campus. Simple as that and I'm glad it's that way now.

I'm also not sure these guys have all these great options everyone is mentioning. A claimed offer and being actively pursued and recruited by a school are two different things. The "liking" Arkansas comment for several of these mid-state prospects says a lot about their current status with the big-time programs IMO.

If the kid is camping anywhere else at all, then not being able to get to Knoxville has no validity. It is a matter of priority or preference more than it is resources. Now, if he simply can't get anywhere because of his situation, financial or family, then Pruitt probably errs on the side of caution and trusts the evaluators.

As to your other question, Montori Hughes has spent quite a bit of time in the NFL. He's no star, but he's been getting paid. Corn Elder had a career at Miami and got drafted last year.

The kid that went to LSU is looking like a potenial bust from things I heard. Not many real hits from there anyway

And it may play further into the idea that Pruitt wants to see these kids outside of their element, which is Tennessee HS football.

I haven't followed his play at all yet, but I have noticed a lot of their fans on the LSU premium boards seem to already be chalking him up as a bust. Surprised me.

It shouldn't. He has other P5 offers if he doesn't want to camp at UT, so not like he would be left without a landing spot.
