Well watching this press conference leads me to believe that UT might actually hire a coach with a winning record this time!...

Stop talking about UT's "competitive disadvantages," Hart. This is the time to paint a positive picture of the university and the football program--not to scare off potential coaches.

Yeah. I guess we can just be glad he hasn't shouted "Roll Tide" yet.

"My pitch will be: This is a great place... You can be the person responsible for taking us back up the hillside."

"We have had these discussions for several weeks. What Chancellor Cheek wants... he's been great... a lot of things are historical in nature... we have talked about the elephant in the room... we need to discuss the issues that need to be resolved."

"This is a tough profession. I think the passion of our fans is one of our great assets. We are blessed with a passionate fan base. Derek Dooley is a good person. He loved Tennessee. He did alot of things to help set a foundation. What people see is Saturdays. We had alot of Saturdays that you could not put your arms around and hug. Derek understands that. We all understand that."

He did say "it doesn't look like we WILL use a hiring agency."

To take it at face value means that he hasn't even begun any talks or conversations. I have a hard time believing that. He's keeping it tight...as he should.

talked about managing the recruiting today with the coaching staff. ... will continue to work as you would expect. Hinshaw, graham, will spearhead the effort.

I think, listening to Hart, that if we'd won even a couple of these games--had beaten Miss. State and Vandy, say, Dooley would still be the coach. To say that this next hire is huge is an understatement. Interesting how many times he's referred to the chancellor.

He should have said "ladies and gentlemen, the next head coach of the university of tennessee football program...jon gruden"

Wow, it's hard to feel positive about this. Seems like Hart isn't really into this search. Either he has his guy or he is way behind and we're in big trouble.

Cheek seems to be the hurdle.

What was it like this morning in the team meeting?

"It was tough. Derek addressed them first. He spoke from his heart. He said the right things and meaningful things. A couple players were emotional. It's a good group of young men. On very short notice, we were not missing many players."

How hard was this for you?
"It's hard. It's the toughest thing you do as an athletic director. It's not as tough with the coach. It's tough with the family."

"I've been doing this a long time. It's critically important. You're head football coach becomes the face of your program. Not only in the community, but in the state."
