I find the whole article suspect since it was written by a mere blogger. Where would a blogger get these financial "facts"?

There is more to this than meets the eye. Some high rollers have backed off giving and arent convinced in the direction of program. Thunder is still bitter that his hunting buddy got axed. Haslams are buying pro teams.

20,000-30,000 empty seats in Neyland each home game this year won't help.

Think they ever thought to reduce ticket prices to get more to attend? No, they'll just raise the ticket prices even more.

Win football and basketball games and money will start pouring in. I don't believe that Cheeks and other academics understand this.

How many more games would you attend if they cut prices by 20 percent or so? That hardly seems like the kind of incentive needed to significantly boost ticket sales.

Wow! And why the hell are releasing this type of negative information about our athletic department the week before national signing day? I know most recruits probably don't understand an interest payment from their own arse, but why leak this out now? We need as much positive right now as possible not this.....
It's public information. Granted, they don't have to talk publicly about it, but they aren't releasing anything that isn't public record.

apparently, the one bright spot touted by many about dooley (his ability to recruit) was trumped by the one bright spot touted by many about hamilton (his ability to collect money for the program).

i could have been running the ut athletic department and been working purposely to screw things up and still wouldn't come close to people actually paid by the university.

How many years has the UTAD been paying the $7-$8 Million or so a year to Jimmy Cheek and the academic side?

I could be wrong but very few if any other SEC school did that?

The majority of schools donate to the academic side. We're just broke right now and needed the money for a new coaching staff

That's dumb. They need $ to improve the situation, but you won't donate until they improve?

"the Vols find themselves mired in more than $200 million of debt, the most in the SEC, with reserves of just $1.95 million, the least in the conference."

Not a good situation to be in.

We would have that in reserve too if we hasn't of been giving $6,000,000/year to the academic side...the UTAD gives this to them & all we hear from the Poindexter bookworms is how awful that silly game of football is. That's gratitude for ya! I'm glad we stopped giving to them !! ALL my contributions go to the AD...none to the academic side.

Did you actually read the article? There is nothing in it that could be construed are "misinformation" by the AD. All of the fiscal information is a matter of public record available under state sunshine laws and available to anyone who sees fit to make the request.

The numbers speak for themselves. There is not much room for any sort of spin.
