"she"??
Don't complain later in this thread when you get called a Fulmerite or an apologist.

If you'll read the thread, "she" is a tongue in cheek reference to somebody's Grandmother that had already been brought up in a tongue in cheek fashion and was not meant as a slap in the face to anyone (why is my tongue in my cheek since I'm just typing?) . . . Besides, if you call me a Fulmerite or an apologist, I'll just edit out those words and replace them with "your daddy". :D

I think the consensus is 8-4. I think that is pretty fair. doesnt mean we can't hope for a turnaround like in basketball. I just think they need to be realistic.

Can't argue with that. The much more favorable schedule ought to get us to 8-9 wins if we can marginally move the ball on offense.

The first thing we have to do though is get back to winning all the games we're supposed to.

Let's see if we can go a few posts without using the label "Fulmerite" for anybody that doesn't think CPF is the Antichrist of coaching. It's gotten really old. :twocents:
Would "Philophile" be more acceptable?

Ask yourself when is the last time a team finished wiht a losing season and came back to win the sec?

8-4

Losses to: California, Florida, LSU, and either Ga or SC for the 4th.

Could end up 8-5 with a bowl loss. Just enough for Fulmer to keep his job and keep everyone complaining.

Not everyone is complaining abotu the Job of CPF. disapointed in last year. But overall happy with his performance.

I don't know about Fulmerites, but Fulmermites come up from the ground and Fulmertites hang from the ceiling.

Just WHAT would it take for you to be unhappy with Fulmer's performance? I'm not even sure that Phil's own mother is happy with his performance over the last 6 seasons!

I dont understand the term "turnaround" or the thought of comparing the football program with the mens basketball program. While last year was a bismal excuse for a Vol football season, it was only one season, if this had been the second or third year of 5-6, 7-4, or even 8-3 I would say it was time for a turnaround. But I look at last year as an aberation or a speed bumb. And to compare an elite program to a program that has been loosing for years is ignorant. As for Vandy or Kentucky, those are expected wins, None is jumping up and down over those, unless we loose to them. Next year 11-1 possibly 10-2.

I was looking at it in terms of players lost. Over half the starters on offense and defense, and almost the entire line on both sides of the ball. To me, that's a rebuidling year.

After a large glass of Kool-Aid, I believe Cutcliff will revive the offense despite the OL inexperience. We may have trouble stopping the run through mid-season but will score enough to win 9 games.

California - win
Air Force - win
Florida - win
Marshall - win
Memphis - win
Georgia - loss
Alabama - win
South Carolina - win
LSU - loss
Arkansas - loss (Upset Special)
Vanderbilt - win
Kentucky - win

9-3.

With a few bad bounces we very easily could go 5-7.

And she probably also knows that Mark Ritch was the guy that got pardoned by Bill Clinton; not the head football coach at UGA.
Too bad Slick Willie is not around now to pardon Fulmer after the 5-6 season. Now THAT IS a felony!!!!

Why would he need it? The vast majority of posters here have already absolved him. It's as if it's no big deal.

Trust me, no sane person thinks it's no big deal. No matter how many bad bounces we get, we should never go 5-6.

I guess it's just that some people just have different length hanging ropes than others.

I hear what you are saying GAVol, but I really get the impression that there are people on this board who would never turn on CPF no matter how low the program sinks based solely on past performance.

I ask people to consider when is the last time any NFL team, or any other major university for that matter, came sniffing around UTK wanting to talk job offer with CPF? The ONLY thing that I can recall is some chatter about the Carolina Panthers maybe wanting him right after 1998. Other than that I have not heard of anyone with interest in him. Why do you think that is?

It's simply a matter of perspective - those of us with longer hanging ropes (to steal from GAVol) get the impression that there are many on this board that will never be satisfied with Fulmer, ignore his successes and dwell only on his shortcomings.

First of all, no "major university" is coming around because CPF has been a successful coach at his alma mater and is highly paid. It's clear that he isn't going anywhere. As for the NFL, I'd say they aren't calling most coaches who don't have NFL experience. For example, as bright as Mark Richt is, I've never read a single story about him being courted by an NFL team.

We all know about his successes but most of us are living in the world of the here and now, not 10 years ago. I'm not going to stoop to name calling but the Fulmerite devotion reminds me of these idiots in the NFL who insist on carrying a posse of criminals with them because of a sense of loyalty to the "people who got you there". What they don't realize is that those same people who got them from point A to point B are holdign them back from ever getting to point C. Fulmer did us some good. He won a NC alomost a decade ago. He got us some good recruits most years. He helped us get some national prominence. However, IMO he has taken us as far as he can. He is like Moses in the Bible. He lead us to the promised land but God is not going to let him get there himself.
