2006 Vols Biggest Surprise???

I think Wade's speed caused some people to get a little ahead of themselves with expectations. He definitely started to turn the corner last year as a DB.

Yeah, I think Wade can be a big playmaker in the secondary this season. He showed flashes of that last year... maybe he'll take it to the next level.

I don't think it is the speed that got Wade overrated but the fact that CPF was hyping him as an All-American.

I'm not saying you're wrong here hvwarrior58... but when did Fulmer do that? Just curious to know...

I think that D. Morely will be one of the most exciting players on the field to watch this year. I expect big things out of him. Also I expect to see Rico McCoy lay the wood on some guys this year if he stays healthy. I think from what I've heard about the Cottam boys they have the potential to be Jason Witten esk

JT Mapu... I love that pick... I didn't even think to post him. The Stormin' Mormon will hopefully come back and be a very delightful surprise.

I wouldn't count on it. I made a crack to one of my buddies that went to BYU about men playing against boys and he had a different perspective on it. A lot of the Mormon kids coming back from their missions don't have the same passion for football that they once did. He said that it seemed like half the kids never did get back to the same level as when they left for the mission. Hopefully, Mapu's not like that, but we shall see.

Does nobody remember when Cut was here before? People wanted him GONE. A lot of fans thought he was too conservative and was mediocre. Now fans praise him as the savior. If things change offensively, it will be because of maturation from year to year from the players moreso than Cut.

Oh, and:

Overrated: Cutcliffe, Sears, Wade

Underrated: Hefney, Anderson, Fellows

I think your wrong. Yes people wanted Cut gone and they were wrong just as those who want CPF gone are wrong IMO. It is the classic case of you don't know what you have until you lose it.

I for one am glad Cut is back.

The fact that you think Sears is overated speaks volumes. He is a beast and was damn good last year.

Biggest surprise of '06? Bringing a retread coordinator and inexperienced position coaches won't fix the offensive woes.

Never let it be said that hate cannot make that negative turn faster than any in the nation. I wish AF could turn as fast as you.

my prediction.

hatevol realizes that he has been wrong all along and starts a pro UT thead. Then he starts a CPF fan club.

Now could anyone imagine anything being a bigger surprise?

Peace will reign in the Middle East before you see any of that foolishness.

I know hate. You would have a very dificult time typing anything positive about UT. Like I stated once before, if we were to win the BCSNC this year you would say that it took to long and we should have already had more and that is proof that CPF should be fired.

No, I wouldn't. I would be unable to speak due to the shock caused by Fulmer finally being able to win another SEC title.

That was quick and good. That actually made me laugh.

This is why this thread was started:

Biggest surprise on offense: Jeff Cottam
Biggest surprise on defense: Robert Ayers (I would say Wade or McCoy but I don't know how much of a surprise they will be, most are expecting it)

OK then will not goof on a pick.

I think a big surprise will be our whole recieving corps. I think they will step up really big this year. These guys are talented big time and have had their card pulled publicly and are catching a ton of heat. I think we will see them step it up big time.

I don't ever seem surprised by the Defense that Chief puts out. I have come to expect it.

Yeah, Cutcliffe was a horrible QB coach and OC. I mean look at the offenses numbers under Cut. Horrible! Charlie Weiss, regarded as an offense mastermind, hand picked him to be his QB coach and co-OC. Man what an idiot Weiss is because he didn't consult hatvol first and find out the truth about Cut's OC abilities.

Look, I understand you not being satisfied with UTK's season. Not satisfied with the players performances and the coachs performances. But, I don't understand what is with you being negative about whether or not the new coaches are going to turn things around. We haven't even gone through the summer yet. How do you know if they are going to be successful if you discount them before they get started. There was a time when guys like Weiss, Carroll, Chow, and any other big name college coach was the age of Taylor, Roper, Luke and lacked experience. You are saying you know through your in-depth knowledge of these coaches (or maybe through some crystal ball) that none of these coaches will be successful college coaches? Wow, what a talent you have.

No doubt. It is amazing to me that some on here call Weiss a great coach and then turn around and want to bash the one guy he really wanted to run his offense and coach his QB's.

That makes about as much since as opening a dentists office in England.

Charlie Weiss, like Spurrier or Richt, runs his own offense. I would think he saw Cutcliffe as a competent coach whose connection to the Mannings would be a nice recruiting plus. He wasn't going to have anyone "run" his offense. He does that himself.

Of course that's it. Cut would have been little more than furniture at ND. Is that about your assesment?
