2009-10 Offseason Discussion

Who here believes in kawakami? Not knockin him, just getting opinions.

When he's good, he's good. He just hasn't been very consistent at all. I think he's going into the season in the role he needs to be in - 5th starter where he can throw about 170 innings and not have to pitch every time through the rotation.

Agreed, Agreed. He's not gonna carry a load or anything, and 4th or 5th is where he'll be. Works when you have jurrjens hanson and others.

I like Kawakami. To be honest, going into this season I like him more than Lowe. He's a battler and a competitor. I was at the game where he beat Roy Halladay 1-0. He beat Santana. He pitched really well in big games. He also pitched really well after mid-May. Innings could be a bit of a concern because they have a 6 man rotation in Japanese ball. Also, the MLB ball is a different size than the one he threw in Japan. I thought he had a pretty solid season and will only get better as he becomes more comfortable with the hitters, his teammates, American culture, etc.

I was in the outfield bleachers one game during BP and half the team was circled around him as he did impersonations of Ichiro, Nomo, and a few others. Absolutely hilarious.

Yeah, probably won't be ready to pitch for awhile. Idk if he's even thrown off a mound yet.

Damon looks like he may be a Tiger. Meanwhile, the Tribe are interested in Russell Branyan to spell Matt LaPorta, coming off offseason surgery.

UPDATE: Now the White Sox apparently has jumped into the lead for his services

This thread is reaching its final days till the thread closes out but a couple of news.

-The White Sox pulled out of the Johnny Damon sweepstakes while the Tigers remain in position to obtain his services

-The Indians and Russ Branyan agreed to a one-year deal. He will probably play first base and DH on occasion.
