2012 SF Derek Reese - New TN Commit

Sparty how do you feel about Reese? Just logged on so sorry if you already posted something.

Looked good to me. I don't think some people know how difficult it can be to play as a freshman, much less playing for the first time 11 games in and after shoulder surgery, which is extremely painful to rehab. I want to see if he can dribble past a guy when people close out now because they will close out on him hard. Looked like he knew what was going on with D as well.
Just a thought, but I think both of his makes came in front of the bench. Something about shooters is that when you hear your coach and teammates telling you to bust the shot right in your ear and they cheer as it goes up, it builds confidence and more go in. Lets see if he can have that confidence all the time. We know he has the green light.

Martin calls Reese one of the highest IQ players he's ever coached.
We'll be seeing a lot of him at the 4.

Those mid range fade aways last night were big time.

Josh has improved a ton.

The scary thing is he still has plenty of room for improvement in his game as well.

Actually think he's becoming the leader of this team.

I'm gonna wait for another good game before I say that about Reese, but I completely agree about Richardson. Dude is a baller on both sides now, especially defense.

Reese was great though. He was exactly what we needed tonight.

I didn't get to see the game so can someone enlighten me to what Reese did that was so great? I understand he's coming off surgery but 25% shooting and 1 assist leaves a lot to be desired.

He hit 2 big shots when we couldn't hit any and it appears that he may be a shooter that finally helps stretch the d.

Well he probably hit the 2 biggest 3 pt shots of the game at a critical point in the game when Tennessee needed it and a big free throw as well. He played well and has a nice stroke for a guy 6-8.

Yemi, Richardson, and Reece...CCM found 3 diamonds in the rough! He provided a nice unexpected spark of the bench, almost reminded me of last year when Stokes came in during the KY game.

Edit: Richardson was a top 150, but was still a 3 star.

Really looks like these diamonds in the rough are all instinctual players that hustle and play solid D. Length and instincts are what he seems to be looking for in his 3 stars. Über athleticism not required. Washburn was the opposite in some ways. Extremely athletic but not very instinctual. Hubbs is a combination of them all.

Josh has negated Skylar's poor offensive performance.

That doesn't make skylar's shooting 29% any better, it's killing us, we need an outside threat and he was supposed to be it.

It'd be nice to have Josh's improved O, and skylar adding in 40% from 3 and an extra 5ppg.

Richardson has an NBA skill set. Very good defender, well-rounded (but still developing) offensive game. Needs to work on his long jumper. Not saying he'll ever make a roster in the NBA, just saying he has a robust game. Can't remember the last time we've had a player this well-rounded. If he continues to improve on both sides of the ball, he could be a tremendous player.

Definitely the most improved player.
Seems also to be taking the lead in huddle ups.
May be seeing our new leader in the making.

Deandre liggins was a 8ppg guy his senior year, but got himself drafted because of his defense. Richardson is already at that 8ppg mark, and is shooting over 50% from the field, very impressive.

If he continues to improve, especially his outside shot, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him make a NBA roster.

Talk about nice find, 3* to NBA prospect???

I'll say it again the way Richardson is progressing reminds me of Victor Olidipo of IU who was also a three star. Defense got him in the starting line up and he developed his offense and now is considered a first round pick. Rich has the same potential and is impressing me more and more every game.
