Potential Free Agents:
Greg Biffle (Close to contract extension)
Jeff Burton (Close to extension)
Carl Edwards
Mark Martin
Ryan Newman
Juan Pablo Montoya
Brian Vickers

Figured it would be fun to start speculating on who ends up where. I think Newman, Montoya, Vickers, and Burton all stay with there current teams. Edwards could be interesting here if he can keep up his season. I think a third car at Stewart-Haas Racing could prove interesting, plus his sponsor contracts end too so they could possible follow him....

I think Mark Martin winds up buying into Phoenix Racing and running there or potentially winds up replacing Kahne at Red Bull. I've also heard he might be running a partial season next year too so who knows?

Biffle and his sponsor are close to announcing a contract extension and it could happen within the next couple of weeks. Burton has said he wants to stay at RCR and IMO it should get done.

I think Martin goes to Red Bull or just moves down to a lower tier series the full duration and maybe go part time in Nextel Cup. I actually think Biffle leaves Roush and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. steps in, or maybe, just maybe Martin goes to Roush and grooms Stenhouse for 2013. This is assuming that Edwards leaves too.

Greg Biffle (Close to contract extension) - Seems we go through this discussion every time with Biffle, he talks about leaving, but doesn't.
Jeff Burton (Close to extension) - If he is competitive, he will stay.
Carl Edwards - As long as he is winning, he stays, but one that might get an offer he cannot refuse.
Mark Martin - Mark is leaving HMS for sure, don't see him back at Roush. He doesn't fit sponsor profile at Red Bull.
Ryan Newman - Stays
Juan Pablo Montoya - I am surprised he hasn't already moved.
Brian Vickers - He is happy just to be anywhere right now.

Burton will probably sign, but will he be the one leaving in a few years to vacate room for Austin Dillon?

As a fan of Martin, I hope he moves down to the Nationwide or Truck Series and runs a full season. I want him to win a championship in NASCAR before he retires.

I'm also an Edwards fan. I want him to stay at Roush, but I don't know if he can win a championship there. Roush is so inconcistent from year to year. Edwards in a fourth Gibbs car would be good.

I'd love to see him stay in Cup but running full time in NNS or CWTS would be nice, maybe for Turner Motorsports.

That would be great. He would have to be in something competitive. But I'm sure if Mark decided to move down for a championship run in a lower series, he would just about have his pick of teams to drive for.

Amen on the inconsistency comment.

I'm not sure Stewart is ready for a 3rd car. Maybe if the right driver/sponsor package deal came along.

If he starts a third team it would have to be with either Mark Martin or with Carl Edwards if he leaves RFR. All of Edward's sponsors are free to go with him if they decide too because there contracts are up too. If I were him I'd go to a SHR because RFR is too inconsistent from year to year.

Based on their history, I don't see this happening.

I would be surprised to see Carl Edwards leave Roush for another team. Carl is one of the more popular drivers which has appeal to sponsors. I'm sure they'll work out an extension before the season is over.

I'll be interested in what happens to David Ragan. UPS likes him and he is running better at this point in the season. I know some people have talked about Bayne moving to that car or someone else but it might get interesting if David can put together a good season. He is currently 17th in points but that is improvement for him with a couple of top 10's and a pole.

If Ragan doesn't step up and show Roush he's deserving of a ride he should be let go. He's in 5th (?) season in Cup and hasn't exactly done anything to wow people. If this season ends as lackluster as the rest then I would really like to see Roush give Trevor Bayne the 6 car.
